SF Water, Power, Sewer (SFPUC)

SF Water, Power, Sewer (SFPUC) San Francisco Public Utilities Commission β€” Stay up to date on everything water, clean energy, & wastewater.

Report any water, power, or sewer issues to San Francisco 311. Water

The SFPUC delivers drinking water from the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System to 2.6 million people. Two unique features of this system stand out: the drinking water provided is among the purest in the world; and the system for delivering that water is almost entirely gravity-fed, requiring minimal fossil fuel consumption.

The Water Enterprise also manages the City's Auxiliary Water Supply System for firefighting preparedness. Power

The Hetch Hetchy Power System's hydroelectric powerhouses, solar installations and biogas units generate about 1.7 billion kilowatt hours of clean, renewable and reliable energy annually for vital City services. We are continuously researching, developing, and installing new electricity-generating resources to provide clean power for our customers. San Francisco will be one of the first cities in the nation to offer residents and businesses the opportunity to choose a 100% renewable energy supply with our CleanPowerSF program. Our diverse, renewable energy portfolio makes us one of the cleanest energy utilities in California. Sewer

The Wastewater Enterprise provides innovative resource re-use initiatives such as the Biofuel/Alternative Energy Program. We generate bio-energy as a byproduct of processing fats, oils, and greases that can clog our combined sewer system. The system collects, transmits, treats and discharges about 9.2 million cubic feet of sanitary runoff per year. We protect the public health and environmental safety of the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean. Meet Muon, one of the newest members of the SFPUC team. 🐢

Muon is a specially trained scent detection dog helping protect one of California's most endangered reptiles, the San Francisco garter snake. Instead of digging up burrows to search for these elusive snakes, Muon uses her incredible sense of smell to detect their scent. When she finds one, she simply sits and waits for a treat. 🐍

This innovative approach helps biologists identify sensitive habitat while minimizing disturbance to wildlife and supporting important watershed projects. 🌿

It's a great example of how science, teamwork, and a four-legged partner are helping protect healthy ecosystems. 🌟

Last April, hikers on trails within the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission' s (SFPUC) Peninsula Watershed might have seen a brown and black dog methodically moving through the underbrush. Normally dogs are restricted on the Peninsula Watershed to protect the rare and endangered species there,...

Great news for San Francisco ratepayers! πŸŽ‰

The SFPUC's latest wastewater bond ratings will help keep sewer rates as affordable as possible for our customers. The reaffirmed ratings reflect our strong financial management and ongoing commitment to responsible financial stewardship. πŸ’²

β€œAs a not-for-profit public utility, we do everything we can to keep borrowing costs down and pass those savings on to our ratepayers. Keeping our bond ratings strong is a critical part of that," said Capital Finance Director Nikolai Sklaroff. 🌟

Lower borrowing costs mean more ratepayer dollars can be invested in maintaining and improving critical wastewater infrastructure instead of paying interest. That's another step toward delivering reliable service while helping keep sewer rates affordable. πŸ’§
