Attention all artists and creative workers! In early 2027, the Arts Commission will launch its Artist Housing Certification Program to help establish an eligibility list for artists and creative workers seeking to participate in affordable artist housing lotteries, including the 94-unit 100% artist affordable housing lottery for Artists Hub on Market.

Through the artist certification program, the Arts Commission will verify that applicants meet the program’s artist or arts-worker eligibility requirements before they apply for designated artist housing opportunities. The program is designed to create a clear, accessible pathway for eligible members of San Francisco’s creative workforce and to help ensure that artist-designated affordable housing reaches the people it is intended to serve.

Artist Housing Certification Applications will launch in February 2027, followed by a second round in summer 2027, but artists and creative workers are encouraged to sign up now to receive updates, announcements, and reminders of when applications open.

Call for artists! The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) invites artists and artist teams, as well as artists represented by a gallery or other authorized lender, to submit proposals for the temporary loan of an existing freestanding, large-scale sculpture for display in Patricia’s Green, a beloved neighborhood park and civic gathering place in Hayes Valley, San Francisco.

Eligible works must be fully realized, previously fabricated, and currently located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Deadline to submit proposals: September 21, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. PT

We invite San Francisco’s arts community to join us for a special virtual Grant Disbursement and Reporting Policy Update this Friday, July 24, 2026, from Noon - 12:30 p.m.

We have heard your concerns, and we are reaching out to you first to share updates to our grant disbursement and reporting policies, which have been revised in response to the feedback we received.

Call for artists! The San Francisco Arts Commission invites artists and artist teams residing in the United States to submit qualifications for the Ingleside Police Station Replacement Public Art Project.

The public art opportunity consists of a two-dimensional artwork or artworks located on an interior wall within the station’s multi-use Community Room. Artwork will measure approximately 300 square feet, and will be comprised of durable, maintainable materials suitable for a publicly accessible, active, multi-use space, such as ceramic tile, mosaic, or similar media.

The goals of the project include an Artwork that:

· Is informed by the people, history, and character of the neighborhoods and communities served by Ingleside Station, including Bernal Heights, Diamond Heights, Excelsior, Glen Park-Sunnyside, Holly Park, Ingleside, Merced Heights, Mt. Davidson, Oceanview, Outer Mission, Precita Park, St. Francis Woods, St. Mary’s Park, and Visitacion Valley.
· Supports the Ingleside Police Station’s Community Room as a welcoming space for civic gatherings, dialogue, and public programming.

The third installation of the 2026 Art on Market Street Poster Series, titled “History Makes the Present Complete,” by artist Vida Kuang, is now on view along Market Street!

History Makes the Present Complete will be displayed along Market Street, between 7th and Steuart streets, at 15 SFMTA transit shelters through fall 2026.

Commissioned around the 2026 poster series program theme, Now & Then: Living Memories, Kuang’s poster six poster illustrations draw connections between pivotal moments in San Francisco’s history and contemporary movements for racial, economic and social justice.

Pictured: “Occupy / General Strike” drawing parallels between the 1934 San Francisco General Strike and the 2011 Occupy Wall Street movement as moments of collective action against economic inequality and “Iris Canada” honoring the San Francisco resident who became a symbol of housing justice through her fight against eviction, reflecting broader struggles for housing security.

The San Francisco Arts Commission voted today to appoint Executive Director of Arts and Culture Matthew Goudeau as the agency’s new department head. Goudeau will oversee the newly unified city agency comprised of the Arts Commission, Grants for the Arts, and Film SF.

This appointment fills a position that was vacated on June 30, 2026, following the retirement of the former Director of Cultural Affairs.

“I am honored by the Arts Commission's appointment and grateful for the opportunity to serve San Francisco in this new capacity. Bringing together the Arts Commission, Grants for the Arts, and Film SF creates an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen the City's creative ecosystem through a more coordinated and collaborative approach,” said Matthew Goudeau, Executive Director of Arts and Culture.

In the exhibition curated by Shirin Makaremi, two emerging Bay Area artists, Kelley Finley and Tricia Rainwater approach survival as both a personal and collective experience. Delving into personal and communal histories, the artists explore what it means to sustain communities and how resilience is an ongoing process.
 
‘I split the ground, so it would not close over me’ will be on view at SFAC Main Gallery in the War Memorial Veterans Building through August 29, 2026.
