Outdoor Club’s ended the school year with a beautiful trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains!

This Memorial Day weekend, the Outdoor Club camped near the town of Independence. 

Students and staff spent the day visiting the former Japanese American internment museum called Manzanar, as well as the Arts Festival in Bishop.

Local hikes and good weather offered sweeping views of the Mojave desert and snow capped mountains. 

Our campground offered a snow melt creek that was enjoyed by many. 

More camping trips will be offered to students of all grades 7-12 for the next school year!

Shout out to super athlete and Samueli Academy's star swimmer Ethan!

Ethan represented the Firewolves at the CIF Southern Section Division 4. He placed:

🔥3rd in 200 freestyle
🔥3rd in 100 freestyle

With these results, Ethan put Samueli in the top 25 out of 61 teams.

As the solo representative of the school, he could not participate in the relays which give more points. Even with that limitation, Ethan's results knocked out 36 other teams- many with full time swim programs. That's how impressive the results are!

Another fun weekend with .outdoorsclub

The club spent 2 nights at Bearpaw Reserve near Forest Falls.  

Students and chaperones spent hours at Mill Creek, went on a night hike to Big Falls, made a day outing to Oak Glen Preserve and Oak Tree Mountain for activities, and then went on another 5-mile night hike on a winding forest road above the campground.

Weather was warm. Our campground included a short walk to a waterfall, with sweeping vistas of the local mountains.  

The Outdoor Club will offer one final trip for the school year to the Eastern Sierra Nevada for Memorial Day weekend!

✨ Spark Day ✨

Before going on Spring Break last week, Samueli Academy Firewolves joined forces with various organizations in Orange County for our annual day of service.

Some of the highlights:

🌟 Packaged 520 boxes of food at The OC Food Bank

🌟 Built planters, a picnic table, and painted parts for playhouses at Habitat for Humanity

🌟 Helped Human Options prepare their emergency shelter for its upcoming renovation

🌟 Volunteered at the Discovery Cube 30th Annual Bubble Fest helping children experience the joy and magic of bubbles.

🌟 Cleaned up the City of Santa Ana Pacific Electric Park

🌟 Assembled lovely bouquets with inspirational messaging at Tilly's Life Center.

🌟 Deep cleaned, made enrichment toys and treats, refilled water bottles and cleaned toys for the animals at WAGS Pet Adoption

🌟 Trimmed back bushes and cleaned up at the El Salvador Garden Observatory

🌟 Potted seedlings and prepared the Newport Bay Conservancy for spring blossoms

More big news! Samueli Academy has been officially recognized as a California Distinguished School, one of the state’s highest honors for public schools.

While awards are never the reason we do this work, it’s incredibly meaningful to see the impact of our mission recognized at the state level.

This recognition was not something we applied for, but rather an honor awarded at the state’s discretion.

This recognition reflects the tremendous work happening across our campus each day. It speaks to the dedication of our teachers and the resilience and commitment of our students.

We have built a school culture that prioritizes high expectations, meaningful relationships, and life-changing opportunities for the young people we serve.

The Distinguished School designation highlights schools that demonstrate exceptional student performance and success in closing achievement gaps.

It’s a powerful affirmation that the work being done at Samueli Academy is making a real and measurable impact.

Look back at National Engineering Week activities at Samueli Academy.

Students work out how to build a structure that can run a ping pong ball without stopping.

Points are scored for the length of time it takes to run through the structure (the longer the better) and for the least amount of materials used (pieces of paper).

Another unforgettable day with 🏒⛸️

Broadcasting Club went to to interview players and 🙌

This immersive opportunity tasked students with researching their subjects, drawing up interview questions, filming on professional gear, and staying cool in front of professional athletes!

Teamwork at its finest!
