The Benedek Memorial Library will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday, May 25. The staff and Board of Trustees hope you have a safe and happy holiday. (There will be a chicken BBQ at the library on Memorial Day.)

Pulmonary Resuscitation Class (Chest Compressions)
Would you like to learn how to save a life? The Benedek Memorial Library is teaming up with the American Heart Association to teach a life saving skill to all in our community. The skill of pulmonary resuscitation, chest compressions only, no mouth-to-mouth breathing. This class is not a certification class. The class will take place in June (date to be determined). The library needs to know who would like to take the class. If you are interested, please call the library at (607)583-4426 or email us [email protected]. Please notify us of your intent to participate by May 15th.

Spring Craft: Build a Birdhouse

Tomorrow, April 9 at 4 pm to 5:30 pm stop by the Benedek Memorial Library to paint a rock! Show us your creativity and take home a painted rock to keep or to leave as and unexpected surprise for a passerby in the community. We have rocks and paint markers for you and your family to go wild with creativity. You can do more than just one rock if you want. If you are willing we can add your rock to our snake Rocky! Enjoy a creative fun time with family and friends.

Just a note on the upcoming events at the Benedek Memorial Library. Tomorrow, Saturday February 28th we will start the day with Coffee/Conversation Hour at 9:30 am. At 10:00 am there will be a drop in craft for young people making a snail picture with paper quilling. Adults are welcome to do the craft with our young people. The day ends with a Jigsaw Puzzle Contest at 1:30 pm.

Kids Art Class! Draw a playful dragon.
Our own director Candy will lead a class for all ages (including adults) to draw a young dragon. All supplies will be available, but if you have special supplies you like to use when drawing feel free to bring and use them. The class will be March 5, at 4:00 pm. It will be a drop-in class but try to be there as close to 4:00 pm as possible to have the most time to let your imagination soar and have time to finish the project.

What Challenge?
The 2026 Winter Read Challenge!
The 2026 Winter Read Challenge is where young people, grades K through 12th, may adopt a young dragon as a reading partner and take on the reading challenge of 840 minutes (14 hours) over four weeks. For complete Challenge rules go to: https://benedekmemoriallibrary.org/2026-winter-read-challenge-rules/. For every two hours of reading, participants will earn a raffle ticket for a chance at a raffle prize. Check out our raffle prize page go to: https://benedekmemoriallibrary.org/2026-winter-reading-challenge-raffle-prizes/. Participants will also earn books to keep. When a young person signs up for the Challenge they will get to pick a book to start their journey on. When a young person reaches 420 minutes (7 hours) of reading they will get to pick another book. When the reader reaches the total of 840 minutes (14 hours), completing the challenge, participants will get one more book.
The Winter Read Challenge starts February 14 to March 14. Last day to record reading times and get raffle tickets will be March 13 ending at 7:00 pm. Sign up for the Challenge and to adopt a dragon starts February 12. There will be programs for all ages during the Winter Read Challenge, so keep your eye on our events pages. The program will end with a pizza party on March 14. We will draw the winners of the raffles at the Pizza Party.
Are You Brave Enough to Teach a Dragon to Read?
