Let Your voice be heard!

Have transportation challenges kept you from getting to a job interview, or even just applying? Outreach – Center for Community Resources is helping spread the word on the Lackawanna County Workforce Transportation Survey, and time is running out to speak up.

This survey is helping county leaders decide whether new microtransit options could connect more people to jobs across Lackawanna County. If you're job searching, currently working, or know someone navigating transportation barriers, please take a few minutes to share your experience before the survey closes.

🏆 This month's Otto Award winners are the Family Engagement Initiative Team, Nicole Piccoletti and Chris Gogas!

When the Office of Youth and Family Services (OYFS) referred a family for Family Engagement and SafeCare services, the stakes were high. To find a path forward, a Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) meeting was scheduled.

The day of the meeting brought an overwhelming and beautiful surprise. By the time the meeting began, a massive network of care had assembled: 26 people in total, including relatives participating in person from Pennsylvania, extended family joining virtually from the Dominican Republic, and dedicated members of the family’s church community.

To ensure everyone could actively participate, the meeting was run bilingually. With the help of an interpreter and an Outreach staff member translating and scribing every detail in Spanish, language was no barrier to collaboration. The family’s pastor and his wife grounded the space, opening and closing the meeting in powerful prayers of hope and unity.

Together, this vast circle of support developed an airtight, rock-solid safety plan. The emotional peak of the meeting came when the caseworker shared that the plan had been approved and that the baby would be returning home immediately after the meeting. Upon hearing this, the room erupted in cheers, tears, and overwhelming gratitude.

The meeting concluded with a celebration. The room was filled with laughter as family members took photos together and held the baby up to the video screen, sharing the joyful moment in real time with their relatives in the Dominican Republic. Today, the baby is safely back home, and the family is thriving under the watchful, loving care of a village that refuses to let them walk alone. The sheer volume of community support, bridging borders, language, and faith, makes it a beautiful example of what Family Group Decision Making is meant to achieve.
