It was named in honor of Lord Effingham, an English nobleman and colonial rights advocate. It covers 483 square miles and is home to roughly 71,500 residents as of July 2023. A temporary traffic switch will be installed on Goshen Road beginning Monday as construction continues on the Goshen Roundabout project.

This switch will move traffic into its final configuration along the existing Goshen Road corridor through the roundabout area, allowing crews to complete ongoing construction and finishing activities within the project limits.

Construction crews will work to minimize impacts to motorists and maintain safe traffic operations throughout the work zone. Please use caution, follow posted signage, and expect possible delays while traveling through the area.

Please do not park on Franklin Street or Pine Street around the Extension/4-H Building during closure times. 🌀 The Effingham County Emergency Management Agency (EEMA) and its community partners are preparing for another hurricane season.

EEMA officials met Thursday with county departments, municipal agencies and charitable organizations during the Effingham County Pre-Hurricane Kickoff Meeting at the EEMA Operations Center inside the Clarence E. Morgan Complex. In the attached video, EEMA Specialist List Sapp talks about the gathering that focused on coordination, communication and preparedness efforts to help keep Effingham County residents safe before, during and after severe weather events.

Now is the time for residents to prepare as well by reviewing emergency plans, gathering supplies and staying informed throughout hurricane season. 🌧️📻
