🚒🔥 Training Never Stops! 🔥🚒

Last night, members of the Stony Brook Fire Department traveled to the Suffolk County Fire Academy to participate in a private dwelling search and rescue exercise.

Members worked on search techniques, teamwork, communication, and locating and removing victims in simulated reduced visibility conditions.

Searching for victims is one of the most critical tasks firefighters perform on the fireground. Training like this allows our members to sharpen their skills, build confidence, and prepare for real-life emergencies.

We remain committed to continuous training to ensure we are always ready to serve and protect our community!

Our search for new members is ongoing! If you're interested or would like more information please visit us at www.sbfd.org, find the Member Interest Form link, fill it out and a member of our Recruitment team will follow up promptly.

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention at W.S. Mount Elementary School! 🔥🚒

Members of the Stony Brook Fire Department recently visited W.S. Mount Elementary School to conduct fire prevention school tours!

During our visit, students had the opportunity to learn about fire safety, the importance of smoke detectors, what to do in the event of a fire, and the role firefighters play in keeping our community safe.

Our members enjoyed interacting with the students, answering their questions, and helping them better understand the importance of fire prevention and safety.

We would like to thank the students, teachers, and staff at W.S. Mount Elementary School for having us! It is always a pleasure to visit our local schools and share important fire safety lessons with the youngest members of our community.

🚒🔥 Remember, fire prevention starts with education!

🔥 Kitchen Safety: Never pour water on grease fires—slide a metal lid over the pan to starve it of oxygen. Keep an extinguisher ready and remember PASS: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
🏠 Home Protection: Home sprinklers suppress room fires in seconds; working smoke alarms buy vital escape time.
🚪 Family Action Plan: Run an EDITH drill (Exit Drills In The Home) tonight. Verify two ways out of every room and designate an outdoor meeting spot in your yard.

Tonight at our weekly probationary training, members got a hands-on lesson in fire behavior and flow paths!

Thanks to Lt. Steck, who built a dollhouse training prop, our probationary firefighters were able to see firsthand how fire, heat, and smoke travel through a structure and how ventilation can impact fire conditions.

This training helps our firefighters better understand the importance of coordinated ventilation and fire attack, allowing them to make safer and more effective decisions on the fireground.

A huge thank you to Lt. Steck for taking the time to build this prop and put together another great night of training!

🚒🔥 Training today for a safer tomorrow!
