The Big Walnut Area Historical Society is moving its monthly meeting and program to accommodate a larger than normal crowd. Please join them in commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and hear from those who were at Ground Zero. The program begins at 7:30 pm.

Please note the change in location for our September Program! We will meet in the multi purpose room of Sunbury United Methodist Church. Please use the lower lot and enter through the back.

THANK YOU BIG WALNUT CIVIC ASSOCIATION, VOLUNTEERS, AND SPONSORS!

Thank you to all who helped make this year's Sunbury Sizzle and Sounds another great success. A special thanks to the Big Walnut Civic Association leadership for pulling it all together (Cindy Erndt, Gillian Doucette Banten, Theresa Dronsfield, Brian D'Amico, and Kathy Krupa).

Although Sizzle is over, it doesn't mean that we are done with community events for the year. Stay tuned for more information about the following upcoming events in Sunbury:

September 7 - Labor Day Market on the Square;

September 12 - Sunbury Marathon, Second Saturday on the Square, and Fallen Heroes Memorial Tribute;

October 3 - Smokin Hot Wings and Music Festival (Freedom Park);

October 10 - Second Saturday on the Square Evening Market (first full event with DORA overlap); and

December 5 - Christmas on the Square.

SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON DATA CENTERS - AUGUST 27, 2026 AT 6:30 PM.

You are invited to attend a special Sunbury City Council meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 6:30 pm at the Big Walnut High School, 713 N. Miller Drive, Sunbury, Ohio to discuss select data center topics. This is the second of what is expected to be three special meetings on data centers.

At this meeting, city council members, residents, staff, and others will hear from two specialists on data center development. Topics for this meeting include: (1) the different types of data centers and (2) best practices related to land use and zoning.

Kyle Jones, Faculty Director of Integrated Technology at Sinclair Community College and Chris Hermann, Principal at MKSK will be the speakers.

Each speaker will begin with a 20-25 minute presentation on the topic followed by 35-40 minutes of questions from members of council and the audience. Members of the audience will be invited to write their questions on a piece of paper that will be read to the speaker by a member of city staff.

Other data center topics being considered for the final special meeting in October include noise, economic development, and environmental/health impacts.

INTRODUCING SUNBURY'S HOMETOWN HEROES BANNER PROGRAM.

The City of Sunbury is teaming with the Delaware County Veterans Services Office to honor the brave men and women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces with a two-sided banner displayed on the utility poles lining our main roadways. The banners will be displayed this fall through Veterans Day.

If you are a resident of Sunbury and would like to honor a family member with a banner, please reach out to Mindy Groves, Sunbury Community Affairs Specialist, by September 2, 2026 for additional details or to complete an application. The cost of each banner is $115 and space is limited so do not delay.

IMPORTANT CHESHIRE ROAD AND N. MILLER DRIVE UPDATES!

CHESHIRE ROAD. Phase 1 improvements at the Cheshire Road and W. Cherry Street intersection are nearing completion and the road will reopen TODAY by 4pm. To travel south on Cheshire Road (from Cherry Street) drivers must turn at the Kintner Parkway traffic light and access via Stone Creek Way (see image below for additional details).

Those traveling north on Cheshire Road will only have a right turn option onto Cherry Street. To travel west, drivers must use the full access intersection at Kintner Parkway (see image below for additional details).

The new intersection created by New Cheshire Road (in front of Astemo) will remain closed until a traffic signal is installed later this year.

N. MILLER DRIVE. Drivers will also note a change in the traffic pattern at the intersection of N. Miller Drive and W. Cherry Street. A dedicated westbound turn lane has been added to N. Miller Drive (see image below). Additional traffic calming improvements will be added to N. Miller Drive before the school year begins. Both improvements are designed to improve safety and control traffic in this heavily traveled area of the city.

Please drive carefully through these areas while drivers become accustomed to the new traffic patterns. Thanks.
