We are part of the largest grassroots pro-democracy movement in U.S. Welcome to Northwest Valley Indivisible, a local chapter of the national Indivisible movement dedicated to defending democracy, advocating for progressive policies, and holding elected officials accountable.

New Blog Post: Who Leads Surprise, and Why Isn't It Mayor Kevin Sartor?

Mayor Kevin Sartor seems powerless to govern the crisis in front of him. Instead, he governs the room where people talk about it. When residents began using public comment to hold him accountable for his tepid response to the ICE facility, he did not answer them. He changed the rules:

He cut the video feed to the Call to the Public.

He capped public comment time.

He limited the number of people who could speak on a topic. Dozens who signed up in April never got to speak, and many of them turned up outside his State of the City event, joining a protest crowd as large as the audience he had inside.

At the September 1 council meeting, after speakers at the previous meeting used every available public comment opportunity to demand that the ICE facility be prioritized for a public hearing, he eliminated public hearing on liquor licenses, a move that appeared to blindside even his own council.
