What’s in your car that could become a dangerous flying projectile??? 👠 📚 👜 🧳 🔨Unsecured heavy objects in a vehicle act as dangerous, high-velocity projectiles during a crash, with a 20-pound item hitting with 1,000 pounds of force at 55 mph. Loose items—such as laptops, luggage, tools, or heavy toys—continue moving at the car’s previous speed, causing severe injury or death upon impact with occupants.

Happy Mother’s Day from the California Highway Patrol!

Today, we honor the strength, compassion, and dedication of mothers across California—especially the moms who serve in uniform, answer the call as dispatchers, support operations as professional staff, and keep our communities safe in countless ways.

Whether you’re spending the day with loved ones or serving on duty, your contributions do not go unnoticed. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to your families and to the people of California.

From our CHP family to yours—Happy Mother’s Day.

SOBRIETY AND DRIVER’S LICENSE CHECKPOINT

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Susanville Area, and Susanville Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) and driver license safety checkpoint on May 8, 2026, somewhere within the Susanville city limits.

Often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on our local roadways by intoxicated drivers. The goal of the LCSO and CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist. A Sobriety/driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations. Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or driving unlicensed. Our objective is to remove those impaired drivers before they cause life altering collisions and remove unlicensed drivers who should not be behind the wheel.

Funding for this program was provided from the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.

NOTE: The media may contact LCSO Sergeant Michael Loflin at (530) 257-7126 on May 8, 2026, no earlier than 4:00 p.m., for the exact location.
