Does your canoe, kayak, paddleboard, or other paddle type watercraft have one of these identification tags on it?

Having this on your watercraft will tremendously help First Responders in quickly and efficiently determining if an emergency exists. It will also help reunite you with your watercraft if it floats away.

If you don’t have one or need more, they’re free from the Maine Warden Service or Marine Patrol.

This year's St. George Days are from Wednesday, July 15th thru Saturday, July 18th. On that Saturday, starting at 11:00 a.m., the St. George Volunteer Firemen's Association is once again having its fundraising outdoor lobster feast at the town office parking lot. Proceeds from the event go to paying down the mortgage on the Fire Building located on Rt. 73, Seal Harbor Rd.

In addition to the delicious lobsters, the menu will also include mussels, burgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, desserts, sodas and water.

An event of this magnitude relies on many volunteers. We will need help with cooking the lobsters and mussels, grilling the burgers and hot dogs, serving the food, taking the orders and cashiers, bussing the tent, collecting the trash, and manning the "fill the boot" drive.

This is a wonderful and fun day, and we look forward to seeing so many members of our community and visitors. We encourage you to volunteer for a couple of hours, or more, if you can! When was the last time you thought about or tested your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarms (which we certainly hope you have!)?

Smoke and CO alarms should be tested monthly, and immediately replaced if there are any issues or problems.

Smoke and CO alarms must be replaced every 5-10 years from the date of manufacture. Because CO sensors degrade faster than smoke sensors, combination units must usually be replaced at the 7-year point. Standard smoke-only detectors can last up to 10 years...again, this life time span is from the date of manufacture not the date of installation.

You can generally find the exact manufacture date printed on the back of the alarm.

Even if the test button still triggers the alarm, the electromechanical sensor inside the detector degrades over time and loses its ability to detect toxic gases. For the safety of you and your loved ones, the device should be replaced when the time from manufacture reaches the 7 or 10 year life span.

If your unit does not have a sealed 10-year battery, standard batteries should be changed every 6 t0 12 months. Regardless of the battery type, the life span of the unit remains as previously noted.

The St. George Fire and EMS team is mourning the passing of Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury who this morning succumbed to injuries sustained during the explosion at Robbins Lumber last month.

We send our deepest sympathies to Assistant Chief Woodbury’s family, friends, the Searsmont Fire Department, and to all those who knew and worked with him during his many years of dedication and service.

A loss like this is felt far and wide. We stand with Searsmont in deep gratitude for Assistant Chief Woodbury’s life and commitment, and deep sorrow in his passing.

More training today...Lincoln County's Basic Fire Class working on their live fire skills training at our Fire Training Building on Seal Harbor Rd. Applying the skills they have learned over the course of the classwork to actual hands-on live-fire experience under the watchful eyes of multiple trainers and command staff. Really great to see this awesome facility being utilized by our regional teams in addition to our St. George and other Knox County departments!

Great training taking place this weekend...today at our Tenants Harbor Station, the Knox County Fire Academy Firefighter 1 & 2 class is in day one of the two day Hazmat training. Today's work is focused on classroom learning and proper gear utilization. Tomorrow's training will be hands-on gearing up and containment. Tremendous attention and content on this critical topic!

The spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit the injured First Responders in the horrific Robbins Mill fire was an awesome success! Thanks so very much to Tracy Goldsmith Leavitt for organizing and leading this tremendous initiative, the local businesses who donated the terrific silent auction items, the local community members who donated their time and delicious food, and to our community members who came with generosity and caring!

Tracy just announced that together, we raised over $7,000. With the generous match from a local Mason’s Lodge of $3,000, that brings the total to just over $10,000.

Many of the First Responders face a long and grueling physical and psychological healing process. Our hearts, prayers and support are with those who were injured and their families. We hope our collective love and generosity helps ease the financial burden they face, and buoys their spirits!

This evenings fund raising spaghetti dinner is from 5:00-7:00 pm. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, it’s now going to include a SILENT AUCTION and 50/50 RAFFLE. Please come over to the town office for a great meal and fun activities, while most importantly helping the Firefighters & EMS Responders and their families who have been so severely affected by the horrific Robbins Mill fire.
