The Freeport Fire Department was recently called out to a smoke filled basement. Upon arriving on scene, the cause was located in the dryer vent lines, which as you can see were substantially blocked.

Dryer lint is very combustable, and in this case the initial smoke call prevented what would have been a much more serious event. Regular cleaning of your dryer vents is vitally important in preventing this potentially catastrophic situation.

Plug-in home decor / fragrance appliances have become very popular. As with anything plugged into an electrical outlet, they should be checked daily for any heat buildup, burn marks, or other signs of malfunction, and not left plugged in overnight or when the residence is unoccupied.

The fragrance this device was designed to emit wasn't the smoke it actually did!

Time and time again, we get dispatched in the middle of the night to an emergency and have difficulty finding the specific address. The time lost in determining the correct address can literally be the difference between a positive or tragic outcome!

The Knox County Regional Communications Center provided critical factors to follow, making sure your address is:

* CLEARLY VISIBLE FROM THE ROAD
* LARGE ENOUGH TO READ FROM A RESPONDING VEHICLE
* NOT BLOCKED BY LANDSCAPING OR OTHER FACTORS
* VISIBLE DAY AND NIGHT

We're here for you 24/7...please help us help you by making sure we can quickly locate where you are when you need us!

Hello Neighbors!!

In the last few minutes I have deleted at least 6 spam comments. These comments are being posted by bot accounts, and sometimes real accounts that have been hacked or cloned.

I just wanted to remind everyone that we will never have someone unaffiliated with the department sharing links for stores to buy St George Fire merchandise. At this time, we do not have ANY online stores for anything.

Please use caution when following links and making purchases online. If you ever have a question about the legitimacy of a post or comment you see here, please send us a message or call the station to ask. The last think we want is for any of our neighbors to be scammed.

Stay safe out there!

⚠️If you use a generator, be aware of the danger of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and know how to use your generator safely:
1) Never run gas powered generators in the garage, barn, or shed (even with the door open).
2) Keep the generator at least 20 ft. from windows and doors.
3) Make sure your CO detectors in your home have fresh batteries.
