FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
At approximately 1:00 p.m., Stranger Township Fire Department crews were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Interstate 70.
While crews were finishing operations at the vehicle fire, at approximately 1:38 p.m., they were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident involving four vehicles on Interstate 70.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel began assessing and treating those involved. Two individuals declined medical treatment at the scene, one patient was transported by air ambulance services to an area hospital, and one individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life, as well as everyone affected by this incident.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Leavenworth County Fire District No. 2, Tonganoxie City Fire Department, Fairmount Township and Leavenworth County EMS for their assistance and teamwork. We are grateful for the professionalism and cooperation of all emergency personnel who responded during a difficult afternoon.
Additional information regarding the circumstances of the accident and the identity of those involved will be released by the appropriate law enforcement agency.
