We want to hear your stories...for real! Story Slams give storytellers an outlet for their tales and build community among listeners. The stories might be funny, scary, or emotional, but they're all true. If you have a story to tell, sign up for our next Story Slam! Reserved items scheduled to be picked up from a bookmobile stop may be picked up at the main library during this time in the holds pick-up room. They will also be available for pick up at the scheduled bookmobile stop the following week.

Today, the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library joins millions of readers, families, and literacy advocates around the world in mourning the loss of a true champion for children, Dolly Parton.

Through her visionary Imagination Library, Dolly transformed the landscape of early childhood literacy. She understood that a love for reading begins at home, and her generosity ensured that countless children in our community and across Kansas received the gift of books delivered straight to their doors. Her belief that a book could inspire a child to dream big aligns perfectly with our library’s mission to spark curiosity and connect our community.

While we grieve her passing, Dolly’s legacy will endure every time a child opens a book and discovers the joy of reading. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, her friends, and the team at the Imagination Library.
