If you have kids ages birth-5 years old, we have a reading challenge just for you! Snuggle in for some great reads at least 30 times in November. Sure, this is a wonderful way to increase early literacy skills, but it's also a time to bond and make memories with your child. They'll carry the love of reading throughout their life! (*Tip: you don't need to read 30 different books. You could read your child the same book 30 times, 10 books 3 times or any other combination of reading at least 30 times. Children enjoy repetition!) We'll have a fun prize pickup party Mon, Nov 30, 2026, 4-6pm. Prizes available while supplies last. Sign up in the Beanstack app.

Topeka's historic cemeteries, far from being spooky, are where you can discover stories of Topekans who left their mark on history. Like the story of Amelia VanFleet. Amelia died of complications from tuberculosis, but what happened next unsettled and outraged the Topeka community. In this episode of Tombstone Tales from the Topeka Room, local history librarian Katie Keckeisen tells us who passed the blame, who was held accountable and where you can visit Amelia's grave.

Sherry, our early childhood expert, invites you to a special event where you can have your young child screened to check their physical, social, emotional progress and their vision. These free screenings will be conducted by community partners working together to support kids' wellbeing and give the a great start in life. This is also a great chance for parents to ask all their questions! Join us in Marvin Auditorium on Mon, Nov 2, 9-11am.

Experts from Parents as Teachers (USD 501 & 437) and Shawnee County Health Department will conduct the following screenings:
• ages stages questionnaire (ASQ)
• ages and stages questionnaire SE (ASQ Social emotional)
• vision
* Infant Toddler Services of Kansas and Grace Med will provide health resources
* K-State Research and Extension will provide nutrition information
* Child Care Aware of Northeast Kansas will provide developmental information
* TARC / Tiny-K will also be there

In December 1895 Topeka was rocked by scandal when 3 bodies were stolen from their graves and taken to the dissection room at the Kansas Medical College. In this episode of Historic...ahem...Terrifying Tales from the Topeka Room, local history librarian Katie Keckeisen tells us about the public's response and the surprising consequences of this chilling crime.

Starting TODAY, Monday, Oct 26 you can pick up your holds in our new Holds Pickup Room closer to the entrance, directly across from the Customer Service Desk in our Plaza area. You can grab your holds, use one of the three checkout kiosks in the Plaza and be on your way.
