🧸 Building Connections, One Smile at a Time 💙

A stuffed animal and a friendly conversation can go a long way toward building stronger connections in our community.

Topeka Police Department Sgt. Marr and Officer Davidson recently spent time in the SE Bellview Avenue area handing out stuffed animals and visiting with youth, families and other community members. The outreach is part of TPD’s continued efforts to increase engagement and build positive relationships in an area that has recently experienced higher-than-normal crime activity.

While addressing crime and keeping neighborhoods safe remains a priority, our officers also recognize the importance of being present, listening and connecting with the people who live in the communities we serve.

Thank you to TPD Sgt. Marr and Officer Davidson for taking the time to share some smiles and strengthen those important community connections! 🧸👮‍♂️💙

Back to School, Back in Our Schools! 🏫🚔

As students head back to school, you may notice some familiar uniforms spending a little extra time around our local schools. 👮‍♂️

Since the start of the school year, Topeka Police Department officers have been visiting schools throughout the community—not only to provide an added layer of safety and security, but also to build positive relationships with the students, staff and families we serve.

These everyday interactions matter. Whether it’s a quick hello in the hallway, a high-five or a conversation with a student, each interaction is an opportunity to connect with young people in a positive environment and help them get to know the men and women who serve their community. 💙

Keeping our schools safe will always be a priority, but building trust and strong relationships is an important part of that mission, too. We’re proud to be part of our schools and our community.

📚✏️ Here’s to a safe, successful and great school year, Topeka!

🚔 This Labor Day Holiday -- Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 🚔

As Labor Day approaches, the Topeka Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Kansas and the nation to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly and never drive impaired.

From Aug. 19 through Sept. 7, motorists can expect an increased law enforcement presence on local and state roadways as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

According to KDOT, preliminary 2025 data shows the devastating impact of impaired driving in Kansas:
🔹 66 people killed and more than 950 injured in alcohol-impaired driving crashes
🔹 51 people killed and 240 injured in drug-related crashes

These deaths were preventable.

If your Labor Day plans include alcohol or other impairing substances, plan your safe ride home before the celebration begins.

✅ Designate a sober driver or use a cab or ride-share service.
🔑 Never let an impaired person drive—take the keys and arrange a safe ride.
🏠 Make sure your guests have a safe way home.
📞 Contact local law enforcement if you see a suspected impaired driver.
🚘 Always wear your seat belt—it is your best defense against impaired drivers.

Help us keep Topeka streets safe this Labor Day. Plan ahead. Make responsible choices. Never drive impaired.

🚔 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

It's Back-to-School Time—Slow Down, Stay Alert, Keep Our Kids Safe! 🎒🚸

School is back in session, which means more students, families, school buses and crossing guards are on Topeka streets. The Topeka Police Department wants to remind everyone of a few important safety tips to help keep our youth safe as they travel to and from school each day.

As you head out each morning, please slow down, stay alert and give yourself a little extra time, especially in and around school zones. A few extra seconds can make all the difference.

🚸 Watch carefully for children crossing the street.
🚌 Stop for school buses when required by law.
🚗 Obey posted school zone speed limits.
📵 Put the phone away and eliminate distractions.
⏰ Leave early so you don’t feel rushed.

TPD officers will be conducting traffic enforcement at schools across the city throughout the school year to help keep students, staff and families safe.

💙💛 Let’s work together to make this a safe and successful school year for everyone!
