TFD is made up of a full-time group of 1 full-time chief and 4 full-time firefighters (currently 1 Captain, 1 Lieutenant, and 2 Firefighters) along with 22 call firefighters. We are staffed from 6 AM to 6 PM every day of the week including holidays and weekends. At night time, the department functions on a combination of part time staffing and callback. Callback means that before members respond t

o the location of an emergency, they first leave their homes and respond to the fire station to retrieve equipment. After getting dressed in their turnout gear and getting in the appropriate emergency vehicle for the call, they respond to the scene. The Topsfield FD is a progressive department that is a licensed ambulance service at the paramedic level. Our ranks include 8 paramedics with the rest of the membership being certified at the EMT-Basic level. Also among our ranks our firefighters vary in different levels of skills to provide a better service to those that call upon us such as Fire Instructors, EMT Instructors, Fire & Life Safety Educators, Hazardous Material Operations Level responders, Engineer level operators, Child Safety Seat Technicians, as well as a multitude of other backgrounds and levels of training.

Good morning Topsfield! There are numerous trees and wires down all throughout the town. Topsfield Fire Department,Topsfield police department, and Topsfield Public works are working with National Grid to secure wires and restore power. Please do not go near wires that are down, all wires are assumed to be live until National Grid tells us they’re not. For your own safety please stay away from them. Thank you.

In between emergency calls, Station maintenance, training and other importance tasks at the Fire Station, our members have been busy in the community. We thoroughly enjoyed passion time at Steward school, we loved sharing our passion of the fire service with the students there. Members on duty and off duty came in to decorate Townhall in preparation for Memorial Day and the other patriotic celebrations of this year. Tomorrow we will decorate the graves of our firefighters who have passed away. They are never ever forgotten, spoken of fondly and truly missed. Topsfield Fire wishes everyone a safe holiday weekend.🇺🇸🚒🇺🇸🚒

In between multiple emergency calls this morning, we were thrilled to stop in and celebrate Ian and Joe during their senior internship fair at Masconomet regional high school. We have witnessed remarkable growth in both of them over their weeks of internship and can't wait to see the incredible impact they will make in the future. There is no doubt that their future is bright! Congratulations on your graduation. Remember the door is always open and the freeze pops are in the freezer. Stay safe out there!🚒🚒🚒🚒

Interestingly, in early 1923, there was a fire in the barn behind this Grange building. The Odd Fellows were having a meeting and someone came in and said the barn was on fire. The fire was difficult to control because of minimal people available and involved in the firefighting effort. This fire was extinguished and was considered quite a success because the Grange builing was saved. Four nights later another large fire occurred in town. Raymond Roberts had a barn where he stored soft coal. The Fire Chief was notified of the fire and began calling the firefighters. Many of the firefighters thought the Chief was joking when he called and therefore not many people showed up to fight that fire. That building was lost. These two large fires in 1923 spurred the town to move forward in the organization of the Fire Department.

The old Topsfield Grange building was located at 27 Main Street. It burned down on a freezing cold night in December of 1940.

A beautiful day to assist American Legion Post Commander John Cascio and Bill Quinn with decorating the downtown. The Legion Post purchased new poles and flags, and we were happy to put them up. Interns Joe and Ian got some quality time on the ladder. Thank you Firefighter Murley and Firefighter Pitcairn for taking time out of your day to assist with this important task.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
