Park Street, including the commuter lot, will be closed from 9 AM to approximately 12 PM for the funeral service of Boxford Police Officer Robert Smith. Also, Main Street will be heavily congested with traffic during this timeframe. Please seek alternative routes if necessary.

It is with deep regret that the Topsfield Police Department extends our sincere condolences following the passing of Officer Robert Smith of the Boxford Police Department.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Smith’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Boxford Police Department during this incredibly difficult time.

Please keep Officer Smith and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tremendous loss.

The Topsfield Police Department would like to remind residents to always lock their vehicles and remove any valuables. Neighboring communities have experienced car break-ins. At this time, Topsfield has not experienced any recent car break-ins. As always, if you see anything suspicious, please report it immediately.

Topsfield Police Chief Neal Hovey Graduates from Prestigious FBI National Academy, Session 298

The Topsfield Police Department would like to congratulate Chief Neal S. Hovey for graduating from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. The FBI National Academy is internationally known for its academic excellence. The National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced training in communication, leadership, and fitness. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend and are considered the top 1% in law enforcement. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience.

Two hundred and fifty-five law enforcement officers graduated from Session 298 of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The 298th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

FBI Director Kash Patel delivered remarks at the ceremony. Class spokesperson Charles Chapeau from the Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta, GA, represented the graduating officers.

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses offered.

A total of 57,196 graduates has completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
