MAIN BREAK UPDATE

Repairs have been made and water has been restored.
Many thanks to everyone for their patience today and of course thanks to the amazing water operators we have. It was a very long day for them as well
Now that water is restored you may experience a period of discolored water. These conditions are temporary and do not pose any health risk. It is advisable to run water from the outside spigot for several minutes before use in all faucets, toilets, and showers etc.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience; this has caused and appreciate your patience and understanding while we perform these necessary repairs.

Update on Water Main Break

Water will be restored shortly to Woodland Drive please refrain from using water for the next 30 minutes to one hour as the crew flushes out the hydrant an line to reduce the amount of discolored water to your home.

Main Break Update

Shortly the water main between Pheasant Ridge Road,Worcester Road, and 40 to 70 Fitchburg Road will be disconnected for repairs

Woodland Drive and Blood Road will continue have water.

We will update you once the repairs are made.

Update on Main Break

Fitchburg Road is now closed. There is a detour on Woodland Drive and Blood Road until the repairs are completed the water has not been disconnected until they can isolate the break.

There has been a Main Break reported at 44 Fitchburg Road. Currently the Water Operators are assessing the damage and we will continue to update you throughout the day.

Please refrain from using water at this time, especially hot water.
Currently properties in the surrounding areas may be experiencing little to no pressure.
Properties throughout the surrounding area may also experience low pressure or discolored water. Please note that this is temporary and will be resolved once the break is repaired.

Main break update
5/9/2026

The repairs to the water main has been completed. Please wait until noon before using the water as the Water Technicians will be flushing out the water main during the next hour or so. Instructions for discolored water is located on the previous post.

REPORTED MAIN BREAK
Brookline Street

There has been a Main Break reported on Brookline Road, under the bridge starting at house # 55 and up.. The water will be shut off sometime between 7AM to 8AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, and is expected to remain off until repairs are completed.
There will be a Facebook Post when it is safe to use your water again.
The road may be closed in this area as we repair the main. Please refrain from using water at this time, especially hot water.

NOTICE TO TOWNSEND WATER DEPARTMENT CUSTOMERS

Sterilite Corporation performed their semi- annual flow test on their Fire pumps for insurance purposes. The flow tests were performed on April 7, 2026, around 5:00 AM at 198 Main St. to minimize the impact to customers.

Customers around these locations may experience discolored water for a short time. This does not pose any health threat, however this condition is temporary and should clear up shortly. If the water has not cleared up or significantly improved in 24-48 hours, please call the Water Department at 978-597-2212.

Attention Townsend Residents
March 27, 2026

Beginning Friday, March 27, 2026, the Townsend Water Department hired Miles Leak Detection Services to find leaks in our distribution system. He will be in town for the next several days inspecting the lines and hydrants.
