Agnese Nelms Haury Program envisions a world in which tribal resilience, sovereignty, and ways of knowing are respected and advanced through globally impactful University of Arizona collaborations in research, education, and outreach. The Haury Program invests in people and programs that help make an impact in the areas of social justice and environment; further enhancing the legacy of Mrs. The Pr

ogram concentrates its funding efforts primarily in the southwest United States at present. This geographic focus follows on Mrs. Haury’s interests. Additionally, we believe that the Southwest can be used as a model for programs in other parts of the world, especially arid and border lands with underserved communities.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

The Agnese Nelms Haury Program has selected eleven The University of Arizona graduate students to receive its 2026 Indigenous Resilience Graduate Research Awards, supporting research and degree completion for projects developed in partnership with Indigenous communities.

The 2026 award recipients are, in alphabetical order: Alana Bitsuie, Mira Busch, Brooke Damon, Deandra Jones, Breanna Lameman, Anna Ortiz, Patrick Robinson, Emily Rockey, Noah Schlager, Michael Spears and Alison Watson.

The eleven 2026 recipients join a growing network of thirty graduate researchers who received awards between 2020 and 2025. Since its launch, the program has invested more than half a million dollars in graduate research spanning sixteen University of Arizona colleges and academic units.

Haury Program is honored to have been invited to participate in and co-sponsor the Sacred Waters Gathering held June 22-25 in Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico. We were glad to share space, stories and inspiration with our U of A colleagues, Restoring Balance Collaborative , UA Indigenous Resilience Center and ITEP as well as meet new partners and friends. We are honored to be able to continue to fund conversations around “ethical space” as well as support the panel featuring Madam Chairwoman Flores and former Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland. We are walking away grounded and committed to supporting Indigenous-led water projects.
