Some classes exist because they have to.
Every Wednesday from 5:30–6:30pm at VFW Post 577 in Tulsa, Humble Warrior Collective sponsors Yoga for Vets, a free, donation-encouraged yoga class for veterans, active duty, first responders, and the public. Using trauma-informed movement and breathing, the class gives veterans tools to slow down, recognize, and navigate their PTSD triggers.
This class was created for people like Megan.
SPC Megan Widner Johnson was Ashley's closest friend. A Combat Medic in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Megan earned two Bronze Stars; one with valor and the coveted Combat Medic Badge. She was brave in ways most of us will never be asked to be.
But PTSD is relentless. For Megan, every day was a series of small defeats. Driving. Fireworks. A song that played at the start of every mission. Eventually it left her incapacitated.
Megan was 38 years old when she died in 2019.
Yoga for Vets was built in Megan's honor and for every veteran still fighting that invisiblebattle every single day. This program is currently unfunded. If you'd like to support it, reach out to [email protected] or visit humblewarriorcollective.org
