It’s time to remind you of this excellent historical story of Mare Island Naval Shipyard’s contribution to the WWII war effort. Thank you to the US Army 63rd Readiness Unit stationed on Mare Island, currently.

I’m VERY PLEASED to present a video created for the US Army Reserve 63rd, about the history of and demolition of 2 of their Mare Island WWII era building on their finger piers, Buildings 734 and 736. It’s an interesting historical piece in which I have a small role. Please do watch and share. Myrna Hayes

Another absolutely treasured memory created by the late Jaime Esp featuring our 150th celebration of the Mare Island Naval Ammunition Depot and our hosting of more than 1100 members of the public over that weekend. This was the first time the public got to visit this land in 150 years. Let that sink in! It paved the way for us to open the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve on a regular basis a few months later in April 2008. Precious treasure.

Another terrible loss from our community. My friend, Jaime Esp now in Heaven, too. He never missed an opportunity to film and share our beautiful communuty events. In this case, the closure of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

Laugh along with me! The buck crosses in front of me. As I’m attempting to film through the windshield, the flash comes on and obliterates the deer image. Next, I’m leaving the parking lot(coast clear) heading back out to lock main gate of the Mare Island San Pablo Bay Trail on my nightly duty. A cottontail bunny hopping along in front of me. Stops, virtually invisible, then as fast as a bunny can dart, it crosses road. Double strike outs! And, is it ever chilly and windy tonight as I lock the gate. Happy weekend, friends.

How thrilling to have the work of Vallejo Artist Diana Krevsky at the Mare Island Art Studios this weekend! Diana served with me and Paula Tygielski and many others for more than a decade in the Mare Island Restoration Advisory Board. She and I also served for 5 years in the 35 person Mare Island Regional Park Taskforce that produced the 97 page recommendations to Mayor and Council for the plan we used to open and manage the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve for 14 years. Congratulations, wonderful friend.

One beautiful evening on the Napa River/Mare Island Strait, last night. View north to the Napa River Bridge from my driveway. St Vincent’s Hill National Register Listed Historic District.
