Construction Construction Everywhere!
Monday, July 27th, Vinalhaven Public Works and Island Excavation will begin paving from Hopkins Point Rd (at the top of the North Haven Ferry Landing in Vinalhaven). We will keep one lane open; however, please understand that this is a very narrow road and even when the flagger releases traffic, there WILL be times when we will have to stop you until we can get you safely by the paving crew, so please plan accordingly and allow yourself extra time to get through. Also, I highly recommend that you use a different location (Main St boat launch or the Town Wharf boat launch) to launch your boats during this work. We will be paving Monday through Thursday next week.

UPDATE: Round the Island Rd is complete for this year! Please be careful if it rains tomorrow, as the oils can cause it to be a big slippery.

The Public Works Crew and Island Excavation will be paving on Round the Island Rd today, one lane traffic only. If you must travel from the Pequot Rd side, use caution, be prepared to stop and plan a little extra time. Alternate route would be from the North Haven side to access up to the Webster Residence.

Very shortly we will be on the end of N. Haven Rd. by the North Haven ferry Landing along that stretch changing culverts prior to Paving next week. There will be times where you will not be able to get through, so please plan accordingly. If you need to be at North Haven a specific time within the next 4 to 5 hours please allow yourself extra time to get through our work area.

Paving on round the island Road begins tomorrow, Monday, July 6. We will be keeping one lane open during the Paving process however there may be times where you will be needing to stop momentarily for other traffic. Please be patient so that we can get this job done in a safe and timely fashion. The Paving process will go Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 4 PM or until we can get the hot top to cool down enough for you to drive on it.

The Public Works road crew will be working at the End of the North Haven Rd tearing up tar, replacing culverts and getting ready to pave the first 2000 ft. Be prepared to stop, go slow through to work area and know that it will be rough during the ripping process.
Pavement is scheduled for the week of July 6 th!!

5/29 11am Stormwater Update

JBI is currently excavating near the Fish Plant Boat Ramp but will be moving down to near Oakes / Coop area to dig this afternoon. There will be single lane traffic at that location while they are excavating. Please use caution!

5/28 Downtown Project Schedule & Updates

Stormwater System – JBI will continue with stormwater system work on West Main Street. Today they will be near the Fish Plant Boat Ramp area.

There will be one lane traffic throughout the day. Please keep this in mind as you travel to and from the ferry and use caution when traveling near the construction.

5/28 Downtown Project Schedule & Updates

Stormwater System – JBI will continue with stormwater system installation along West Main Street. Today they will be working again near Vinal Energy, Wes Reed’s, and the Fish Plant Boat Ramp area.

There will be one lane traffic throughout the day and there will be a short period of time when the road will be closed to through traffic. Please keep this in mind as you travel to and from the ferry and use caution when traveling near the construction.

The Town has been assured that JBI will have a flagger on site to help keep travel through the work area safe and minimize confusion.

Spring has arrived in VH... we hope, but regardless, our Public Works Crew will be out on the road, ditching, doing shoulder repairs, and replacing culverts.
If you see our Road Work signs, please slow down, move through our work areas carefully, and follow the direction of any crew members that may be guiding you.
At this time, we are working on the area of Vinal Cove on the Calderwood Neck Rd. We will be working with a 3-person crew and may not be able to have a person flagging; those in the dump trucks or the excavator operator will assist in getting you through safely. Bear with us, so that we can successfully improve this road and drainage. Thank you
