Cape Henry Rotary

Cape Henry Rotary We are People of action—neighbors, friends and problem-solvers who share ideas, join leaders + take action to create lasting change. We are an active, hands-on Rotary Club always looking for our next great member, could it be you?
(10)

The Rotary Club of Cape Henry was founded in March 1984 with 33 members. Three members of the Virginia Beach Rotary Club were responsible for launching our Club. One, Dan Dickenson, was our first President. His contribution is honored by our annual donation to the Dan Dickenson Scholarship Fund at Virginia Wesleyan College. We presently have 60+ members. Our Club's motto is "ACTION AND FUN." Rotary International says "SERVICE ABOVE SELF." The business men and women of Cape Henry Rotary are strongly committed to both.

Mission: "Service Above Self with Action + Fun."

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages charitable giving at the outset of the Christmas and holiday season. Rotary and Rotaract members can take action this Giving Tuesday, 1 December, by making a gift to The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund SHARE, which makes sustainable projects possible both on a local and global level. #CapeHenryRotary, #RIFoundation, #ServiceAboveSelf, #RotaryOpensOpportunities

What impact can one donation have?

For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
$50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
$500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. #CapeHenryRotary, #ServiceAboveSelf

Thank you for your recent gift to The Rotary Foundation. Your contribution directly supports Rotarian-led service projects that provide clean water, promote peace, develop communities, save mothers and children — and will one day soon eradicate polio.

We’re grateful for donors like you, who are dedicated to Doing Good in the World.

Sincerely,
The Rotary Foundation

This week's speaker is WHRO's Bert Schmidt, speaking about online/remote education and "Bringing the Classroom Home Since 1961."

Bert has been a forward-thinking leader in public media for over 28 years, the last twelve as the president and CEO of WHRO Public Media. WHRO is owned by a collaboration of 21 local public school divisions—the only public broadcasting station of its kind in the United States. WHRO actually stands for Home Room One, and while technology has changed dramatically over the years, WHRO Public Media is still in the business of helping schools improve student performance and meet their strategic goals using today’s technologies.

Watch The Tear-Jerking Moment This Dog Meets His New Mom | The Dodo Adoption Day

From the Rotary Club of Norfolk—I hope this finds you all well. As a member of the Rotary Club of Norfolk and a PETA employee, I am currently organizing a zoom watch party where we will be viewing a new documentary on PETA’s local program which assists countless residents and their animals in our region. Since this program serves your localities as well, I wanted to extend the invitation to your clubs, in case there are members who would like to (virtually) attend.

Please join us on Tuesday, December 1, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a Zoom watch party featuring a new documentary on PETA's work to help animals in our region. Through interviews and behind-the-scenes footage that follows our dedicated team of fieldworkers, the film tells the stories of neglected animals and highlights efforts to improve and save their lives or at least alleviate their suffering.

Breaking the Chain, which was produced by Anjelica Huston, is available on several streaming channels, including Prime Video, Apple TV, ITunes, Vudu, and others, but we are offering this special viewing for Rotary Club members and their families who would like to join us. The Virginian-Pilot recently published a piece on the film, which can be found here.

Date: Tuesday, December 1, 2020, Time: 7 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Place: A Zoom link will be sent to everyone who signs up within 48 hours of the watch party.

After the viewing, there will be a Q&A session with the senior vice president of PETA's Cruelty Investigations Department, Daphna Nachminovitch, who is featured in the film.
