The Rotary Club of Cape Henry was founded in March 1984 with 33 members. Three members of the Virginia Beach Rotary Club were responsible for launching our Club. One, Dan Dickenson, was our first President. His contribution is honored by our annual donation to the Dan Dickenson Scholarship Fund at Virginia Wesleyan College. We presently have 60+ members. Our Club's motto is "ACTION AND FUN." Rotary International says "SERVICE ABOVE SELF." The business men and women of Cape Henry Rotary are strongly committed to both.

Mission: "Service Above Self with Action + Fun."

STRONG COMMITMENT, COORDINATION and PERSEVERANCE can rid the world of polio.

After decades of hard won gains in the region, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) — WHO, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance — are proclaiming the milestone an achievement in public health.

POLIO and COVID-19... Knowing what it takes to conquer polio, survivors refuse to crumble under a new threat
Paul Engleman was two years old when he was diagnosed with polio in 1955. One of the lucky ones, as his mother would say, he was not paralyzed by the crippling disease that sometimes kills. Now, he is in the age group that is more susceptible to a new threat, COVID-19. A frequent contributor to Rotary magazine, Engleman describes what it is like to survive polio and live through the COVID-19 pandemic and talks with polio survivors determined to eradicate polio.

Register now for the first webinar, Design an Inclusive Plan for Your Organization on Thursday, 17 September at 15:00 Chicago time (UTC-5), and submit your questions to our experts.
A recording of the session will be available to everyone who registers.

Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds. And we’re committed to reflecting the communities we serve by being inclusive of all cultures, experiences, and identities.

During this webinar we will:

• Hear from speakers working through the different phases of framework implementation
• Emphasize the importance of having a framework that includes everyone, extends to all activities, and has measurable results
• Equip you with tools to design an inclusion framework of your own—and invite you back to learn more!

Throughout 2020-2021, Rotary will host a webinar series to explore diversity, equity, and inclusion, with topics that range from understanding our own implicit biases to learning how to hold each other accountable.

AFRICAN REGION CERTIFIED WILD POLIO-FREE
We are calling on you today to recommit yourselves to ending polio. We need each and every one of you to help finish this fight and continue raising $50 million each year for PolioPlus. The eradication of wild polio in the African region shows us that polio eradication is achievable, and shows how our hard work, partnerships and financial commitment continue to propel us forward, even during a global pandemic.
Thank you for your continued efforts, for achieving a wild polio-free African region, and for remaining committed to fulfilling our promise of a polio-free world. #EndPolioNow, #CapeHenryRotary
