(1)

Our VOLUNTEER Rescue Squad responds to any emergency medical dispatch within the 248 square miles of our city limits free of charge. We serve approximately 440,484 Virginia Beach citizens as well as the thousands from neighboring cities who work and visit each day in addition to the nearly 6 million overnight tourists who visit our city annually. Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad is extremely thankful for the community who supports its volunteers and ability to maintain four ALS equipped ambulances.

Tonight your Plaza volunteers will celebrate our members in 2024 by holding our annual awards banquet and officer installation. Each year we have a theme for the event- this year weโ€™re going back to the 80s! Keep an eye out for some fun photos!

Last night, VBEMS training staff and Program Director Eric de Forest welcomed 49 students from EMT Academy 79. That's right, 49 students!
Did you know hundreds of volunteers earn their National Registry EMT certification through the Virginia Beach EMS EMT Academy every single year. When you attend the EMT Academy at the EMS Training Center, it's absolutely free with a commitment of one year of volunteering.

We would like to thank Annette B for your gift of gloves we received yesterday. We appreciate the gift and thank you for thinking of us this holiday season!

One of the common questions we get is why gloves? Plaza has 4 trucks on the road with a crew of 3 for 12 hour shifts each day. These crews average 8 to 10 calls per shift with 2 pair of gloves per call. In 1-day thatโ€™s over 240 pairs of gloves. A box of each size comes with 100 so every 1.2 days we are starting a new box of gloves.

Plaza spends over $7000 per year on gloves alone. When we get donations as we did from Annette it helps us to allocate the money we would have used on gloves to other equipment we canโ€™t put on a wish list.

Thank you again Annette and all those that have donated to us through the year. Without you we would not be able to provide the services we do.

Happy Holidays from Plaza Rescue!

Congratulations Kaitlynne V on your release today!
