Voter Registration & Elections (http://www.vbgov.com/voter) maintains the current registration and elections process for Virginia Beach voters and meets mandatory state and federal standards for access to voter registration, such as the regulations of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). The National Voter Registration Act necessitated a joint program with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), as a result voter registration can be completed in any DMV Customer Service Center. Our Office handles mail registration sites at the Virginia Beach U.S. Post Office locations, recreation centers, public libraries, and City Treasurer's offices. The Office also provides convenient ways for citizens to register to vote, update their voter registration record, vote by absentee ballot, and pursue their candidacy for office, and is responsible for maintaining and checking the campaign financial reports of all local candidates. Our Electoral Board is responsible for the conduct of the elections and for the verification of election results. The General Registrar and Director of Elections of the City of Virginia Beach is Donna Patterson. She can be reached at (757) 385-8683, or by email at [email protected].

Va. Dept. of Elections clears up misinformation about ‘counted votes’ on voter registration pages

Our electronic pollbooks used to check in voters at the polls on Election Day are not connected to the internet or network to the city/states networks and as a result each must be manually imported. Once they are all imported the file is then uploaded to the State's election database and the vote credits are added to each voter's record. This takes a few days to complete. Hopefully it will be done by Friday but no later than Tuesday. This is the standard process.

The Virginia Department of Elections is trying to set the record straight after they’ve received a number calls and emails from voters about a viral social media effort urging voters to check and see if their vote was counted.
