The Virginia Beach Democratic Committee and the Republican Party of Virginia Beach have issued the following joint statement.
We may differ strongly on policy and elections, but violence, threats, intimidation, and rhetoric reasonably understood as encouraging violence have no place in our democratic process. We remain committed to respectful political engagement, peaceful civic participation, and addressing serious concerns directly and professionally.
FULL STATEMENT
We reject violence, threats, intimidation, and rhetoric reasonably understood as encouraging violence. Such conduct has no place in Virginia Beach or in our democratic process.
As local party Chairs, we will model respectful political engagement, encourage peaceful civic participation, and set clear expectations for conduct within our respective organizations. While we cannot control every individual's actions, we can address concerns professionally and take appropriate action when warranted.
We have agreed to keep lines of communication open so concerns affecting either organization can be addressed directly and respectfully. We intend to show that principled political competition and professional respect can coexist in Virginia Beach and, in doing so, begin to positively influence political discourse in our Commonwealth and nation.
