On Wednesday, November 4th from 6-7:30 p,m. our library is sponsoring a program, entitled "Living with Grief." Local author, Steve Rand, will read excerpts from his memoir, entitled “A Mother’s Prayer.” that is focused on how his mother raised Rand and her other two children while confronting a deadly disease and becoming a single parent. Though her family of origin begged her to return to Vermont, she refused, believing a return home represented failure. Following his conversation, Rachel Wylie Fenton, of Where The Love Lies, will talk about grief, and how it stays with us throughout our lives, changing shape as time passes. As Wylie-Fenton says “sometimes our grief is close to the surface, and sometimes it quietly surprises us. There is room for all of it.”

Joslin Library will be hosting a special After School program on HUUSD's early release day, Wednesday, 10/21 from 11:40 - 2:00. Unlike our regular After School activity days this program is open to children in Kindergarten and older without a caregiver. Registration is required:

Medicare Options Explained

On Friday, October 9 from 10-11 a.m. Kathryn Parker, an Employee Benefits Specialist from Good Harbor Insurance Solutions, will provide a presentation about Medicare and the options available to Mad River Valley residents. On Friday, October 16, Parker will be available in the morning to meet with individuals who have specific questions and need assistance with enrollment.

Vermont is 75% forested today but at the turn of the 20th century 75% of the state was deforested. What changed over time? Author Robert A. Mello will share the story of how a group of dedicated advocates, citizens and lawmakers turned the tide at the dawn of the 20th century to reclaim our forests on Wednesday evening, October 21 at 6 p.m.

The vampires need your assistance to solve the mystery of who killed one of their own at the Feast of the Vampires, how the vampire was killed and for what reason. Clues will be scattered throughout the library.
The cost of this event (sponsored by the Friends of the Joslin Memorial Library) is $10/person or $20 per team of two. You may pay either by check or cash at the door.
Individuals and teams of two must pre-register in advance. Refreshments will be served and prizes awarded.

After School at Joslin - Fall 2026

We’re excited to announce that After School is back for a fall session! This year, Rachel Alberico will be in charge of programming. You might know Rachel from her Wednesday morning volunteer shift and helping out with D&D, and now we’re delighted to have her take the reins on After School!

Please take a moment to read these reminders about After School at Joslin:
In accordance with library policy, participants must be 8 years or older OR attend with a responsible caregiver (16 years or older). While our After School program is not traditional childcare, it’s a great opportunity to foster independence, familiarity and ownership of our library, and have fun using library resources with friends! This program happens during regular Library hours and other patrons will be using the space. Before your child’s first time at After School, please have a conversation to set expectations for their time at the Library. There is no registration for this program; Rachel will have a sign-in sheet at arrival. Please reach out to Anna with any questions: [email protected].
