Today, in Rhode Island, we proudly honor Victory Day - commemorating the Allied victory over Japan and the end of World War II.

As we remember this historic day - we pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who helped secure freedom and bring an end to one of history's darkest chapters. We also reflect on the tremendous cost of war and the importance of working toward a more peaceful future.

May we never forget a generation who answered the call of duty and the families who supported them at home.

New legislation signed today at the State House is a meaningful step forward for homebound Rhode Islanders, including Veterans!

While many Veterans often receive in-home primary care through the VA, access to specialized podiatry care at home has been limited—leaving some homebound Veterans without essential treatment to help prevent pain, infection, and serious complications. This new law offers a practical, compassionate way to deliver that care safely where it’s needed most.

“You felt that the freedom of strangers is a freedom worth defending.”
— Jeongyeol (Jeremy) Kwak, Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Korea

Words of appreciation and thanks were shared this morning as Rhode Island’s Korean War Veterans were honored at the Armistice ceremony, where a wreath was also laid for those who never came home. The Korean Consulate General delegation later visited the Rhode Island Veterans Home, presenting gifts of gratitude to the Korean War Veterans who live there.
