CMS's new Medicaid Interim Final Rule would require people with serious and complex conditions, including people living with HIV, to repeatedly prove they are "medically frail" to keep their coverage. The rule never defines what that means.

For people who are unhoused or housing-unstable, that paperwork is nearly impossible. Over half of unhoused people already work. A single missed report ends coverage, and losing coverage pushes people further from the stability that keeps them housed and in care.

Public comments are how we push back, and anyone can submit one.

In case you missed it: a new report presented at the AIDS 2026 conference documents the real-world toll of recent cuts to U.S. HIV funding, and the numbers are sobering.

Researchers surveyed 166 organizations across 46 countries. What they found: more than 1,700 clinics and sites closed. Over 16,000 health workers laid off. Prevention services and care for the most vulnerable hit hardest. Programs credited with saving millions of lives now disrupted.

These are global figures, but the through-line reaches home. The same forces reshaping HIV funding abroad are the ones putting housing, prevention, and care at risk in our own communities.

We're sharing this so our community stays informed. Housing is healthcare, and staying aware is how we protect it.
