✨ We’re excited to officially open our new Vision Center at the Michelle Obama Southeast Center!

The Vision Center led by Dr. Hahm, expands the comprehensive medical and dental services already available to our community, making quality vision care more accessible to our neighbors that's also close to home. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the Vision Center provides comprehensive eye exams and coordinated care regardless of a person's ability to pay. 💚

In Washington, DC, vision care remains out of reach for many people without insurance. At Bread for the City, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to see clearly and access the care they need to stay healthy and thrive. 🤓

We are deeply grateful to Mike Park, Alston & Bird team, staff members and supporters who helped make this Vision Center a reality.

In observance of Juneteenth, both Bread for the City centers will be closed on Friday, June 19.

Instead, we invite you to join us for our annual Juneteenth for the City community block party at our Southeast Center from 12:00 - 6:00 PM.

Changes to SNAP work requirements are now taking effect in Washington, DC, and local officials estimate that as many as 18,000 residents could be affected. While implementation will be gradual, many individuals and families may face uncertainty about their benefits in the months ahead.

At Bread for the City, we know that food assistance is about more than groceries. It is about helping people maintain stability, care for their families, and navigate challenging times with dignity.

As our community adapts to these changes, we remain committed to meeting people where they are through food assistance, healthcare, legal services, and workforce development support, so our neighbors can continue to thrive.

Because everyone deserves access to healthy food, compassionate care, and a place to turn when they need support. 💚

A new law requires some Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to prove they are working at least 20 hours a week, or participating in an approved training program or volunteer program for a certain number of hours a month.
