Residents living in Ridgecrest condos are fighting to get critical repairs made to their building using the condo fees they pay. Two seniors were living without electricity. The buildings contain mold, leaky ceilings, and a boiler at risk of blowing up.

Please donate to help them pay their water bill, fix a faulty electrical panel, and support their lawsuit against their condominium association. And join their fundraiser happening tomorrow! Grassroots DC https://gofund.me/c7f956a7

Hats off to the Washington Nationals and Mars, Incorporated for hitting it out of the park with their incredible summer fundraiser supporting Bread for the City! ⚾️💙

Thanks to the DC families who donated at Nats games this summer, we raised over $6,000 to support our neighbors in need. 👏👏

Mars and the Washington Nationals knocked it out of the park with their summer fundraiser supporting Bread for the City. Using America’s favorite pastime, they united the DC community for an excellent cause to support our neighbors living on low or no income, raising over $6,000!

Imagine a future where our work is no longer needed in DC! 🤩 The path to this brighter future requires us to address the deep-rooted causes of poverty, racism, and injustice - the persistent systemic discrimination and oppression in our city and nation.

Here are some initial strides we've dedicated ourselves to in our strategic plan, moving us closer to this vision:

🫂 Launch a Restorative Justice project to heal our community
🏔️ Advocate alongside the DC Guaranteed Income Coalition to fix the public benefits cliff
🏘️ Advance legislation to make housing a human right

☀️ DC is seeing record-breaking heat today - here are three things you can do for our neighbors who don't have a place to cool down 👇

1. Share where the closest cooling center is - these are available whenever the heat index in the District reaches 95 degrees: https://dcgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c975110d05a24acba55f65eef283e05b

2. Direct them to organizations like Thrive DC and Miriam's Kitchen, where they can go inside, get a meal, and many more barrier-free services.

3. Check in on people and carry extra water bottles and sunscreen to distribute.

07/19/2023

This summer's debt ceiling bill has prevented families in DC and across the U.S. from accessing SNAP (food stamps), even though they qualify.

"The law further complicates an already dense application, meaning more people – including those who qualify – will be left out," says Molly Prothero, public benefits attorney at Bread for the City, in a new op-ed in Afro-American Newspapers.

"The Department of Human Services, insufficiently funded and understaffed, cannot process applications within the legally required timeframe...I have seen people, including cancer patients, put off needed medical care and caregivers forgo food to feed their children because the government failed to approve their applications."

Attended a focus group and was pleased with the concerns of the organization.

Personally I am thankful for the services that i have been able to utilize here to assist me in getting back on my feet.

The help here goes beyond food , various services are available for free to assist those who choose to utilize them.

Too many are either uniformed or misinformed about where and how they can be helped .
Congratulations to Dr. Randi! One of the righteous people that grace the world, she has given all of herself for 25 years at Bread to heal the sick and care for the needy. She embodies Bread's motto, "Dignity, Respect, Service and Justice." As one of the thousands of Bread volunteers and donors who treasure her, I salute her achievement as she has moved the Medical Clinks from a one-woman operation to the efficient, large health center we now have to serve people in need. Bravo, Dr. Randi! May you continue with us in our journey for many more years to come.
Sending a huge thanks to our friends, Bread for the City, for welcoming our team members to join them yesterday in a day full of servicing our communities in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our team had a blast and we're grateful to have been able to lend some helping hands to feed those in need!
