How do you describe the feeling of joy?

Maybe It's Family;

Maybe It's You;

Maybe It's Finding Your Voice;

Maybe It's Bread;

Or Maybe It's Your Favorite Holiday Food!

As Mother Teresa once said, Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls. For this holiday season, consider giving the gift of love through a donation so Bread can keep bringing families together, helping clients find their voice, and providing a place of refuge.

PS: We are $80,000 away from covering the cost of feeding over 16,000 families this Holiday Helpings. Help us reach our goal by donating today! https://pages.elevate.salesforce.org/breadforthecity/hh-bfc?campaignId=7014P000001s9ieQAA

We are no longer $95K away, but $80K away (!!) from our $1.6 million goal for Holiday Helpings. For the biggest impact, donate before December 31 at breadforthecity.org.

ALL proceeds will help support DC families this holiday season!

Bread for the City's services does more than change lives; it saves them. We only have until December 31st to support another 3,000 families for Holiday Helpings - please give today at https://breadforthecity.org/

Your gift will ensure that Bread can be there for clients like John whenever someone needs them.

"Bread for the City saved my life. In 2012 I was not feeling too well, so I decided to go to Bread for a medical check-up because I knew they could take care of me for free when urgent care was so expensive. Dr. Joan Myles' was attentive. She did not judge or dismiss my concerns. Our initial consultation led to discovering other health ailments that could have taken my life. I was continually treated with dignity and respect at Bread - whether I was getting a bag of healthy groceries or using the legal and social services to get my ID and birth certificate. I remember when I was getting my ID and birth certificate, Bread made sure to charter transportation back home from the DMV. Bread has always gone above and beyond for the community. Every step of the way, I felt seen and heard." - John S.

Perspective | Bread for the City’s immigration lawyer helps clients find stability

"We all want something similar: to be able to live to our fullest potential — and if we have a family or children, that they're able to have that too...I think people forget that it's individual people who made difficult decisions," says Bread for the City Managing Attorney Erin Scheick.

“Our goal is to help as many individuals as we can with what I call full legal representation.”

The only thing that matches our passion for helping people is our passion for comedy. That is why we and Bread for the City are elated to have comedy legend and DC-native Tony Woods headlining next Wednesday’s Holiday Special at the The DC Improv!

Known for being a mentor to Dave Chappelle and many others, he was an original member of Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam as well as P. Diddy's Bad Boys of Comedy! His laid-back style is the comedic equivalent of unwrapping the best gift of the holiday season, and we still have room under our tree for you!

Today is , a day of solidarity & support for people affected by HIV and to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses. We have come a long way, but inequalities persist for basic services like testing, treatment, and condoms.

At our medical clinic, patients can receive HIV testing and treatment services with dignity and respect, regardless of their ability to pay. Call (202) 386-7020 to make an appointment!

Bread For The City Ended Its Annual 'Holiday Helpings' Early Due To Unprecedented Demand

After serving a record-breaking 16,000 DC residents through our Holiday Helpings program, we were overwhelmed by the demand for our services. We could not ensure the safety of our own staff, volunteers, or the community members who depend on us. It was under these unprecedented conditions that we decided to close our centers. Read more about our decision here > https://dcist.com/story/22/11/21/bread-for-the-city-ended-its-annual-holiday-helpings-early-due-to-unprecedented-demand/

Due to staff and community safety concerns from the overwhelming demand for gift cards and turkeys, Holiday Helpings 2022 has ended. This was a very difficult decision, and we are sorry for the impact on you and your family. We will reopen for in-person services on Monday, November 28, 2022. There will be no turkeys or gift cards when we re-open.

Have a safe holiday!

Attended a focus group and was pleased with the concerns of the organization.

Personally I am thankful for the services that i have been able to utilize here to assist me in getting back on my feet.

The help here goes beyond food , various services are available for free to assist those who choose to utilize them.

Too many are either uniformed or misinformed about where and how they can be helped .
Congratulations to Dr. Randi! One of the righteous people that grace the world, she has given all of herself for 25 years at Bread to heal the sick and care for the needy. She embodies Bread's motto, "Dignity, Respect, Service and Justice." As one of the thousands of Bread volunteers and donors who treasure her, I salute her achievement as she has moved the Medical Clinks from a one-woman operation to the efficient, large health center we now have to serve people in need. Bravo, Dr. Randi! May you continue with us in our journey for many more years to come.
Sending a huge thanks to our friends, Bread for the City, for welcoming our team members to join them yesterday in a day full of servicing our communities in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our team had a blast and we're grateful to have been able to lend some helping hands to feed those in need!
