61 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the measure, dismantling a cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movement and giving more power to Republicans to gerrymander at the expense of communities of color across the South. But that’s not all.

Right now, Republicans at all levels of government are attacking the most essential tenet of our elections: that the people decide their representatives, not the other way around.

As Republicans work to rig the system to win in 2026, state Democrats are fighting back.

There are officially just 100 days left until Election Day!

Let’s be clear: What we do in these final weeks will determine what happens in November.

In total, we are targeting more than 500 districts across our Target Map to build power all across the country. We need to flip just 19 seats in our target states to establish four new Democratic trifectas and create six new majorities in presidential battlegrounds.

The stakes couldn’t be higher as state Democrats are on the frontlines of defending our elections from federal interference and stopping Republican gerrymandering schemes. Plus, the path to long-term power for our party – for Congress, for the path to the presidency, for protecting civil rights, fair representation, and elections that reflect the will of the voters – all run through our statehouses and our Target Map.

Congratulations to New Mexico House Speaker Javier Martínez and Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy on their officer roles on our Board of Directors!

Speaker Martínez is set to serve as our new Vice Chair, and Leader Murphy will be our new Finance Chair.
