Ever notice water pouring out of a hydrant and wonder what’s going on? KWD regularly opens hydrants as part of routine maintenance, flushing sediment from water mains and helping keep the distribution system in good shape.

With more than 600 hydrants throughout KWD’s service area, keeping them maintained is a pretty big job. So the next time you see one flowing, you’re getting a glimpse of some of the work that happens behind the scenes to keep your water system running.

Water Main Break - Oak Street, Waterville
Due to efforts to repair a broken water main, Oak Street is closed (except for local traffic) between Main Street and Drummond Avenue.
The road will likely be closed for several more hours.
Residents in the area may have reduced water pressure or a period of no water.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause.

One thing that belongs in every school backpack? A refillable water bottle.

Sending kids to school with a reusable bottle makes it easy to stay hydrated while reducing single-use bottles and packaging.

When it’s time for a refill, tap water is a simple choice. KWD works every day to provide safe, reliable drinking water to the communities we serve.

Your garden hose has been working overtime all summer, which means your outdoor faucet probably has too.

Before autumn settles in, take a few minutes to check your outdoor faucet for leaks, drips, or damage. Disconnect your garden hose when you’re finished using it this summer, and make sure your faucet is properly drained before freezing temperatures arrive.

A little maintenance now helps prevent frozen pipes and expensive water damage later. Your outdoor faucet has done its job all summer. Give it a little attention before the cold arrives.

Water Main Flushing - Winslow & Vassalboro

During the week of August 24th, our crews will be performing routine system maintenance by opening fire hydrants in Winslow and Vassalboro. This process helps clear out sediment in the water lines and keeps your water quality where it should be.
You may notice temporary discoloration in your water during this time. If it lasts longer than 24 hours, please call us at 207-872-2763.

High quality water is more than the dream of the conservationists, more than a political slogan; high quality water, in the right quantity at the right place at the right time, is essential to health, recreation, and economic growth.”

- Edmund S. Muskie, former U.S. Senator from Maine and U.S. Secretary of State

See those colorful flags and painted lines? Don’t ignore them!

They’re marking underground utility lines, helping keep digging projects safe and preventing costly damage or service disruptions. Before you break ground on a construction, landscaping, or mailbox project, remember to Call 811 Before You Dig.

It’s the law, and it could save you a whole lot of trouble.
