KVCAP has a long history of building and/or renovating homes for residents in Kennebec and Somerset counties. In the past 20 years, our efforts to create affordable apartments and single-family homes has grown by leaps and bounds!

We are grateful to NeighborWorks America for their funding support, helping ensure we are successful in creating much-needed new housing in our region!

*Cony Village
In 2005, KVCAP purchased a large swath of property on Augusta’s east side and formed Cony Village, LLC. We are pleased the final phase of construction is now complete, with 32 affordable homes and 9 condominiums.

*Affordable Apartments
KVCAP transformed the historic Gerald Hotel in Fairfield into affordable apartments in 2013, providing 28 units for people aged 55+.
Between 2020 and 2024, we developed Hartland Senior Living I and II, along with Mary Street Apartments in Skowhegan, providing 100 units of affordable apartments in our rural communities!

*Rehabilitation of Older Homes
In the past two years alone, KVCAP has renovated 3 homes in the South End neighborhood of Waterville. Two were sold to families and the last one is now under contract.

*What’s Next?
King Street Apartments: Progress is moving fast on our new 37-unit affordable housing complex! We’re on target to welcome new tenants in late fall 2026. If you or someone you know is looking for a place to call home, please reach out to the Waterville Housing Authority for more information at 207-873-2155.

KVCAP purchased the former Fairfield Primary School in April of 2025, with plans to convert the historic school building into 32 affordable apartments. We anticipate construction to begin in late 2026 or in 2027.

KVCAP recently received a NeighborWorks Flexible Impact Grant (NFIG) for $318,000 from NeighborWorks® America!

These Flexible Impact Grants totaled $78.8 million and were awarded to 245 organizations across the NeighborWorks network nationwide!

The funding, made possible by an allocation from the U.S. Congress, supports scalable, community-driven solutions to increase housing supply, expand homeownership opportunities and strengthen local economies. The grant awards are designed to provide flexible, core operating support, allowing NeighborWorks network organizations to deploy funding where it is needed most.

This year, KVCAP will continue to use the funds to support youth development, the creation of affordable housing, and work in partnership with the South End Neighborhood Association on revitalization efforts. Beyond physical infrastructure, the funds will also bolster KVCAP’s homebuyer education classes. Last year alone, these classes helped 110 participants achieve homeownership!

"This grant provides KVCAP with the essential flexibility to address the most pressing housing and community needs in Kennebec and Somerset Counties as they arise,” said KVCAP CEO, Suzanne Walsh. “We are deeply grateful to Congress for this allocation, which empowers us to move with speed and local expertise to expand homeownership and revitalize our neighborhoods."
