Road or Lane Status

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced the southbound right lane of Sampson Street (LA 378) will have daily closures from the Union Pacific Railroad track to the South Service Road from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday, September 15 through Friday, September 18, 2026.

The closure is necessary for the contractor to perform milling and asphalt placement to the new westbound ramp bridge. All work will be conducted weather permitting.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.

Road or Lane Status Shoulder closure:

Miller Avenue SB from Railroad Avenue to Horseshoe Boulevard

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a continuous closure of the Miller Avenue Southbound right shoulder from Railroad Avenue to Horseshoe Boulevard from 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2026, through 5 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026.

The closure is necessary for relocation of gas lines along Miller Avenue. Work will be conducted weather permitting.

End of Watch: August 30, 1990

Today, we pause to honor and remember Reserve Officer James B. Cook, Jr., who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Westlake Police Department and the citizens of our community.

Thirty-six years have passed, but his sacrifice has not been forgotten.

Officer Cook answered the call to serve knowing the risks that come with wearing the badge. His courage, dedication, and willingness to stand in harm’s way represent the very heart of law enforcement service.

Today, we remember not only an officer who gave his life in the line of duty, but also the family, friends, fellow officers, and community who continue to carry his memory.

May every officer who wears the Westlake Police badge remember those who came before us and the sacrifices upon which our department stands.
