🚒It’s our annual trip to Wheeling Hospital’s Safety Town for Fire Safety Day!

Both the morning and afternoon classes had the opportunity to explore one of our fire trucks and an ambulance, visit the Fire Safety House, and—most importantly—learn the importance of “Stop, Drop, Cover Your Face, and Roll.”

Great job to all the kids for their participation and enthusiasm today!

We are remembering of one of our long-time retirees Gerald “Jerry” Jacovetty who passed away.

Jerry served the citizens and visitors to Wheeling for 25 years from 1971 till his retirement in 1996.

Jerry was among the first Paramedics at the Wheeling Fire Department, helping to lay the foundation for the advanced care that is provided today.

Those who had the privilege to serve with Jerry described him as “cool, calm, and collected”, always willing to help you on or off duty, a mentor, and a pleasure to work with.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Jacovetty family. Thank you for your service, Jerry.

Roadway flooding has impacted certain streets in the Elm Grove and Elm Terrace areas.

Please do not drive through high water. Watch for road closure signs, as water is receding and crews are working to clear affected roadways.

Use caution when traveling in these areas and allow extra time for your commute.

We congratulate Assistant Fire Chief Deric Jamison on a well-deserved retirement.
Assistant Chief Jamison joined the Wheeling Fire Department in May 1993 and retired on Thursday, June 11, after 33 years of dedicated service. Most recently, he served as Chief Inspector with our Bureau of Fire Prevention. Over the years, he helped educate countless children through our fire safety house program and became a familiar face to many youngsters at Safety Town, in addition to his many other department responsibilities. Thank you, Assistant Chief Jamison, for your dedicated service to the Wheeling Fire Department and the citizens of Wheeling. We wish you all the best in your retirement!

đź‘‹We welcomed eight new recruits to the Wheeling Fire Department today! All were sworn in this morning by the city clerk in the council chambers as we officially welcome them to the department.

Recruit Class 26-02 from left to right: Andrew Shelek, Brandon Taylor, Abigail Gerney, Andrew Hays, Sebastian Dispio, Kyle Greenlief, George Tornick, and Brady Holt.

All recruits will begin several weeks of basic training, where they will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to serve and protect our community.
