Northfield Firefighters trained last week on rural water supply. Crews utilized a porta-tank to simulate a scenario in a non-hydranted area. Our tankers are regularly called to assist other departments in these areas. The training builds on skills and communications between truck
operators, command personnel, and suppression crews.

Personnel have training ever other week on various topics. We tend to concentrate on the HIGH risk but LOW frequency calls such as structure fires.

Northfield Fire wants to thank the Horseshoe Lake Corporation for allowing us access to their boat launch for training. Crews worked on backing and launching procedures last week, along with a tour of the lake. We appreciate the opportunity to utilize the lake. We want everyone to have a safe boating season this year.

On Thursday April 23rd at 2:42 am Northfield Fire was dispatched to a working structure fire in Northfield Estates. Confirmation from the caller prompted a full first alarm assignment on the call which activated Green Oak Charter Township Fire Department and Hamburg Township Public Safety Department, Hamburg, Michigan USA with additional resources. As Northfield Fire was responding they could see visible flames from the Eight Mile Bridge over US23. Dispatch provided reports that the 911 caller indicated there should be someone home but attempts to reach them were unsuccessful. Crews arrived and began fire control and exposure protection. The second crew on scene began to force their way into the structure to begin their search for a victim. Crews from several area departments worked within the command system to extinguish the fire and recover the victim. Unfortunately the victim did not make it out of the fire.

Northfield Township Police Department and Northfield Fire units worked with the MSP Fire Investigation unit. We are waiting for several different agencies to complete their portion of the investigation process. This includes a positive identification of the deceased. Northfield Township Police Dept. is the lead Law Enforcement agency in this incident. There is no update as of today 4/29/26.

Northfield Fire and Police Departments will be conducting a training this evening at the Whitmore Lake Preserve (Seven Mile and Nollar Rd area) in conjunction with several Mutual Aid Departments. The park will be closed during the training and you will see various emergency equipment and several drone teams. We ask that you allow us the space to conduct this training and concentrate on our processes. Signs will be out on the roadway starting around 1pm. Training will start around 5pm and is scheduled to end by 9pm. We appreciate the communities ongoing support.

We want to thank the Staff at Resource Realty Group for donating an allotment of Smoke Detectors to us for use in our Community Risk Reduction efforts. We appreciate the donation and will surely put them to use in our community.

Working smoke detectors reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by roughly 60%.
