The burn ban for Van Zandt County has been lifted effective March 13, 2026.

While outdoor burning may resume where permitted, please remember that many areas are still wet and soft from recent weather. If a fire gets out of control, these conditions could make it difficult for emergency vehicles to reach the scene.

Please use caution when burning and keep the following in mind:

Burn only where permitted by local and state regulations

Keep fires attended at all times by a responsible adult

Have water or firefighting tools readily available

Fully extinguish all fires before leaving the area

Be mindful that emergency responders must be able to access your property if needed

Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

Last night’s flooding brought multiple calls for assistance throughout the Wills Point district, ranging from stranded vehicles to rescuing residents from homes affected by high water.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the surrounding Van Zandt County departments that responded to assist, as well as those that reached out and made contact to ensure we had enough resources on hand. The willingness to support each other in times of need is what makes our emergency response community so strong.

We would also like to give special recognition to the Van Zandt County Dispatchers. Despite an already busy night, they provided major assistance to our crews and supported us throughout the night.

As this weekend has been a very busy weekend for majority of the Fire Departments in Van Zandt County, this is a reminder, if you are burning, monitor the conditions before burning, stay with the fire, and have a water source available if one is available. There is a lot of high fuel out, as well as grounds that are not completely solid and are still soft which results in fire trucks getting stuck while attempting to put out the fire.

“When in doubt, don’t burn”

See the post from our neighbors. Please continue to use caution as roads are still covered and not fully back to normal. Some roads are better than others. Stay safe!

The outdoor burn ban for Van Zandt County has been lifted, effective January 26, 2026, by the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal / Emergency Management.

⚠️ Please use extra caution. Roads and yards are still covered with snow and ice, which may make it difficult for first responders to access your location in an emergency.

Outdoor burning may resume where allowed, but please remember to:

Follow all city ordinances and state regulations

Burn only approved materials

Keep fires attended at all times by a responsible adult

Fully extinguish fires when finished

Van Zandt County is now under a burn ban for the next 30 days. The Commissioner's Court has granted this office the authority to discontinue the burn ban at any time over the next 30 days if conditions improve. I will be monitoring fire conditions daily and will send updates as needed. Thank you for your support. The official Order is posted on the County website and can be found here: https://www.vanzandtcounty.org/
