The Spirit of Community 🐾

For two men in the Springboard community who needed additional recovery support, one major barrier stood between them and the next step in their journey: leaving behind the dogs who had been their loyal companions for years.

So, the Springboard community stepped in.

Participants and staff rallied together to make sure their dogs would be safe, loved, walked, fed, and cared for while their owners continued moving forward.

Sometimes removing a barrier means housing assistance, transportation, or employment support. And sometimes, it means making sure someone doesn't have to choose between taking the next step and the companion who has stood beside them through it all.

🐾 Sometimes helping someone move forward means holding onto the leash for a little while.

✨ In His Own Words: Travis Shares His Journey ✨

Sometimes, the most meaningful way to understand Springboard’s work is to hear directly from the people who make up our community.

At a recent event in Wilmington with Impact Life, Springboar administrator, Travis, stepped forward to share his poetry, his journey, and his perspective 💚

His words reflect resilience, purpose, hope, and the importance of having a community that sees the person beyond the circumstances.

Today, Travis is a crucial member of the team at Springboard Delaware’s Georgetown Village.

This month, artwork from Springboard Delaware’s Healing Arts Studio is on display at the Georgetown Public Library!

The exhibit features a collection of work created through the studio, including several pieces celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States 🇺🇸

Our Healing Arts Studio provides a welcoming, judgment-free space where creativity becomes an opportunity for self-expression, connection, confidence, and healing.

A special thank you to the Georgetown Public Library for giving our artists the opportunity to share their creativity with the community, and to John Wanner for continuing to make the Healing Arts Studio such a special part of Springboard Delaware 💙

See that smile? Darius has a lot to be proud of 💙

In just four months at Springboard Delaware, he has paid off his child support arrears, regained his driver's license, purchased a vehicle, and built greater stability as he works toward long-term employment and independence.

But getting here wasn't easy.

After spending a decade incarcerated, Darius faced significant barriers to employment. When he was unable to secure sustainable work, he lost his place in a recovery house and once again experienced homelessness.

At Springboard, Darius joined our Work-Study Resident Steward Program, where he found more than a place to stay. He found an opportunity to gain practical work experience, strengthen his financial skills, and begin rebuilding the foundation for his future.

And in his own words:

“I'm so thankful for the opportunity Springboard has provided me to be able to get a fresh start on life.”

Every milestone represents more than a goal achieved. That license means mobility. That car means opportunity. And that smile represents a man who has worked hard to build a different future.

This is what Opening Doors for Delaware looks like. 💙

Congratulations, Tami!✨💚🎉

Last week, we introduced you to Tami’s journey. Today, we’re excited to celebrate another incredible milestone!

🎓 Tami has officially earned her ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification! 🎓

Since arriving at Springboard Delaware, Tami has embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and build a brighter future. From earning her Food Handler Certification to now achieving her Food Protection Manager Certification, she continues to demonstrate resilience, determination, and a commitment to creating new opportunities for herself.

Today, she’s putting those skills to work in our Georgetown Navigation Center kitchen, helping serve others while continuing her own journey forward.

We’re incredibly proud of you, Tami! 💙

Meet Tami!

A few months ago, she came to Springboard after leaving a living situation marked by conflict.

When Tami arrived at Springboard's Navigation Center, finding safety was the first step. But she was determined to build something more. Today, she's helping lead our kitchen program.

Determined to build a different future, Tami joined our Resident Steward Program as an Assistant Food Service Steward. She quickly earned her ServSafe Food Handler certification and is now working toward her Food Manager certification, a credential that can open doors to long-term employment and greater stability.

Every meal prepared here represents something bigger than food. It represents confidence, responsibility, healing, and the opportunity to build a more stable future.

Tami's story reminds us that recovery isn't just about overcoming hardship. It's about discovering strengths, gaining skills, and believing in what's possible again. 💙

That's what Opening Doors for Delaware is all about.

Every certification earned. Every skill developed. Every opportunity embraced. Every life changed.
