🎶🇩🇪🇿🇦 A wonderful day of music, heritage and community in Soweto!🎵

On Sept 19, in celebration of Heritage Day, the Morris Isaacson Centre for Music brought together young musicians, the local community and friends to celebrate Soweto’s rich heritage through music, performances and shared experiences. 🎺🎤🥁

We were pleased to support the Centre through our Small Projects Fund 🤝 and to be part of this special celebration.

We are proud to support initiatives that create opportunities for young people through music 🎶, education 📚 and community engagement. 🌍❤️

Yesterday, together with the National Business Initiative (NBI) and , we convened a high-level Climate Talk 💬🌍

bringing together government, industry experts and 🇿🇦 and 🇩🇪 businesses to discuss South Africa’s new Industrial Development Strategy 2026. 📈

Opening the discussion, Ambassador Oliver Rentschler highlighted the opportunities that the transition to a low-carbon economy can create

🇩🇪🤝🇿🇦 Strengthening German-South African business ties

On Sept 16, the 🇩🇪 - 🇿🇦 business community came together in Johannesburg for a day of exchange, networking and exploring new opportunities for cooperation. 💬🤝💡

This day brought together companies, development cooperation partners and development finance institutions from both countries, including the and .

They discussed:
💼 Concrete investment and project opportunities
🤝 Stronger cooperation between development partners and the private sector
🌱 Sustainable economic opportunities
👥 Job creation

The event was initiated and led by the 🇩🇪 Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in cooperation with the 🇩🇪 Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), and organised by the SA-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry - AHK Südliches Afrika (AHK) and the Afrika-Verein Der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V..

Tomorrow, together with the National Business Initiative and , we will convene a high-level Climate Talk 🌍💬, bringing together government 🏛️, industry experts 💡, and South African 🇿🇦 and German 🇩🇪 businesses to explore South Africa’s new Industrial Development Strategy 2026. 📈🏭

The discussion will look at what the strategy means for decarbonisation 🌱, investment 💼, competitiveness 📊 and green industrialisation ♻️, and the role government and business can play in turning ambition into action. 🤝✨

🇩🇪 Ambassador Oliver Rentschler will deliver the opening remarks. 🎤

What will South Africa’s new Industrial Development Strategy mean in practice for business? By placing decarbonisation, diversification and digitalisation at the centre of the country’s industrial agenda, IDS 2026 presents both opportunities and important implementation questions for the private sector.

Where are the opportunities for green industrialisation and new value chains? What will businesses need to invest and grow? And how can government and industry work together to translate the strategy into practical outcomes?

These questions will be explored on 22 September, when NBI, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in South Africa and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH bring government, industry experts and South African and German companies together to discuss IDS 2026.

The dialogue forms part of efforts to strengthen understanding of the new strategy and its implications for South Africa’s industrial future.

🌊 ReNOKA means “We are a river" in SeSotho. During my travel to 🇱🇸, I visited the Makhalaleng Dam to see first-hand how is working with the Government of Lesotho to protect one of the country’s most valuable resources: water. 💧

Known as the water tower of Southern Africa, Lesotho’s rivers feed the Orange–Senqu basin, providing water to around 19 million people across 🇱🇸, 🇿🇦, 🇧🇼and 🇳🇦 — including Gauteng, South Africa’s economic heart. 🌍

Through ReNOKA, 🇩🇪, together with the EU 🇪🇺 and colleagues on the ground, supports sustainable land and water management — restoring degraded watersheds, reducing erosion and strengthening climate resilience. 🌱💧

The new ENERGISE Centre, led by 🇩🇪 TU München and 🇿🇦 Wits - University of the Witwatersrandy, is finding solutions to:

👥 Protect livelihoods
💡 Strengthen local innovation
📚 Help shape policy

The opening ceremony of the 1st ENERGISE Annual Symposium 2026 🎓 highlighted the importance of this timely research.

High-level representatives from Wits and TUM 🎓, the German Research Ministry (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt) 🇩🇪, the German Embassy and the South African government 🇿🇦 all underlined the need to put people and their prosperity at the centre of decision-making in the Just Energy Transition. 🤝⚡🌱
