It is used as an important tool for Council to actively engage with the community, serving as a place for discussion, enquiries and an active exchange of ideas. For the most prompt response we still encourage individuals to contact Council on (03) 64305 700 for specific enquiries.

Kindly be advised that contractors engaged by Ventia on behalf of NBN will undertake works to repair stormwater assets in Jones Street.

What you need to know:

👷 Excavation works are scheduled for Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June between 7 am and 6 pm (weather permitting)
👷 During excavation works, Jones street (just up hill from Hodgeman) will be restricted to one lane.
👷 Minor works will commence earlier in the week, with final site works expected to be completed on 26 June.

We thank the community for their patience and ask all road users to please follow all traffic management signage while these works are underway.

🌱 Thousands of new native plants are taking root at Romaine Reserve through the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program!

You may have noticed tree guards appearing throughout the Romaine and Shorewell Creek catchments in recent weeks, marking the start of another exciting stage in restoring these important waterways.

Last week, four groups of Hellyer College Outdoor Education students rolled up their sleeves and planted an incredible 500 native plants, contributing to the 3,000 locally native species being established in this section of Romaine Reserve. 👏

This important work is also being supported by local contractors Artisan Greencare, Titania's Garden Services, Healthy Country Services and Four Seasons Forestry Services.

A huge thank you to the students, teachers and contractors helping create healthier habitats for local wildlife and greener spaces for our community to enjoy for years to come. 💚🌿

💡 Streetlight Renewal Works in the Burnie CBD

From Monday 22 June, Council will be replacing faulty streetlights throughout the main CBD block to improve lighting and safety.

Works will begin in Mount Street before moving to Wilmot Street, Wilson Street, Cattley Street and North Terrace throughout the week (weather permitting).

To minimise disruption, some lane closures will be in place between approximately 4.30 am and 7 am while roadside light fittings are replaced. Temporary closures of parking spaces and loading zones will also occur, with areas reopened as works progress.

We thank the community for their patience and ask motorists to please follow all traffic management signage while these works are underway.

Kindly be advised of upcoming works at West Park.

Upcoming works: Riawunna ceremonial space – West Park

From Monday 15 June, work will begin on campus to enhance the Riawunna cultural space, including the creation of a yarning circle.

For community safety, a section of the nearby railway path will be intermittently closed on weekdays (8am–4pm) as contractors move equipment on and off-site. Detours will be in place, and the Coastal Pathway will remain open at all times.

Some areas around the campus building will also have restricted access, and there will at times be noise and an increased machinery presence while work is underway.

The project is expected to take 3–4 weeks, weather permitting.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to welcoming the community to this improved cultural space soon.
