Sports & Leisure: Motor Cars part 2

In light of the Annual Swap Meet and Motor Show coming up this weekend, it seemed like the right time to finish our story on the love of cars in the Towers!

In December 2025 we did part 1, focusing on the beginning of the story of motor cars in Charters Towers from the early 1900s to the start of World War 2.

By the 1940s the motor car had become an indelible part of everyday life, and more and more people were able to afford to own their own car.

From here, car ownership increased exponentially, and designs became more varied and creative to allow owners to express their personality through their vehicle. It became a status symbol and a tribe marker - so much more than just a mode of transport!
