The Stories That Shape Us

The Excelsior Library recently welcomed 17 participants from all walks of life to Stories That Shape Us, a memoir-writing workshop presented by Queensland author and memoir educator Natalie Stockdale.

The workshop provided a warm and practical introduction to memoir writing, helping participants discover how to begin preserving the experiences that have shaped their lives. Attendees explored important memories, mapped key life moments and took their first steps towards bringing their stories to life on the page.

We were especially pleased to welcome three high school students and aspiring writers, who hope to pursue writing as a career. They embraced the opportunity to learn from an experienced author.

Whether participants arrived with a clear idea for a memoir or simply a curiosity about where to start, everyone left with new skills, fresh inspiration and a practical pathway to continue writing at home.

Thank you to Natalie Stockdale for sharing her expertise, and to everyone who attended and made the workshop such a success.

✨ Excelsior Library is getting a glow‑up!

Council’s electrical team will be on-site 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟗 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏𝟎 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟒𝐩𝐦 until closure, replacing the old fluorescents with bright, energy‑efficient LED lighting.

During these works, some areas will have reduced lighting and a few services may be impacted, but don’t be deterred. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧, and our team will be on hand to help you find what you need.
