Upcoming MTEC Event in Launceston
Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sally Sievers will be on a panel at the MTEC event in Launceston on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
This is a great opportunity to hear about building inclusive workplaces, reflecting Tasmanians diversity & being a workplace of choice. We look forward to connecting with community members and stakeholders at the event.

We recognise that many people in Tasmania may be concerned for family members, friends and loved ones overseas. We stand with those affected and acknowledge the strength and resilience of communities responding to this tragedy. 🧡

Contact Officer - Public Training - in Hobart on Thursday 30 July - book through link below. Contact Officers play a critical peer-based role, in providing options for people who raise concerns about workplace behaviour, including discrimination, harassment and bullying.

Early, informed responses help prevent escalation, reduce organisational risk and support safer, more inclusive workplaces.

This full-day, collaborative course builds confidence and clarity in the Contact Officer role and covers:

* Core principles underpinning the role
* Appropriate responses and referral pathways
* Where to seek internal and external support
* An overview of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas)

The course uses current case studies and relevant scenarios to support practical application.

The Commissioner and staff have taken part in this year’s special NAIDOC Week celebrations. One of our team represented the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner at the Flag Raising Ceremony at Piyura Kitina.

We all watched as a team the TSS Aboriginal Employment Strategy Team’s “50 Years! 50 Moments! Of Deadly!” timeline presentation, which acknowledged and honoured the significance of NAIDOC Week as it marks its 50th anniversary in 2026 and linked and highlighted significant events in Tasmania’s history.

The "Palawa takeover” on ABC radio on Thursday morning increased knowledge of local concerns, business initiatives and activities across Lutruwita.
