Home Safety Fire Visits aren't just a chance to improve the fire safety of your home.

They're also a chance for us as firefighters to get to know the people of the community that we serve.

Nancy was gracious enough to invite us into her home and share some words of wisdom from her many years of experience in life.

If you would like to book a FREE safety visit you can submit a request via: https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/visits

πŸ›’ Spillage | South Murwillumbah πŸ›’

At approximately 17:00 August 15th, Firefighters from Murwillumbah 391 responded to a call of a large diesel spill along Tweed Valley Way.

Firefighters arrived to find a substantial spill approximately 400 meters long. They established traffic control (Later with help by NSW Police) and deployed absorbant medium.

Being the second largest spill in recent memory, with quite a bit of elbow grease Firefighters managed to render the hazard safe.

πŸš— MVA | Fernvale πŸš—

Today at approximately 10am, Firefighters were called to an address along Tweed Valley Way South Murwillumbah.

Upon arriving they liaised with an RFS member that had found a car that had crashed down a steep embankment after colliding with another vehicle.

Firefighters set up fire protection and secured the scene.
Personnel from various emergency services (Tweed Valley Rescue Squad, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and both Murwillumbah/Burringbar Rural Fire Service brigades) were soon also on scene and thankfully all parties were safely rescued without serious injury and without a major disruption to traffic.

Another stellar multi-agency response for the Tweed District.

πŸš’ MVA | Dunbible πŸš’

Today at approximately 8.30am, Firefighters from Fire and Rescue Murwillumbah and Murwillumbah Rural Fire Service responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident/spillage at Dunbible.

Crews arrived to find a Nissan X-Trail on it's roof in a field. Thankfully, any occupants had safely exited the vehicle and were no longer present at the scene.

Firefighters closed the road and established safe work on roads protocols. Then assisted by the Rural Fire Service to contain any leaked fluids.

Despite being a minor incident, it was a good opportunity for some of our newest members to practice incident management and safe work principles.

We also appreciate the patience and understanding of all the road users we interacted with this morning despite the inconvenience for them.

Looking for something to do with the kids these school holidays?
Grab the kids and find your nearest Fire Hydrant!
Get them to tick off the following:

βœ…οΈ Is the Lid painted bright yellow?
βœ…οΈ Is the Hydrant easily accessible? (No cars parked on top of it or covered in grass?)
βœ…οΈ Is there a blue reflector on the road?
βœ…οΈ Is there a "H" with an arrow marked on the road?

Bonus points if they can find the "HP" and "HR" stickers on a nearby telegraph pole or fence post and even more if they know what they stand for!

In a fire, every second counts.
So parents, you can play along too by making sure your closest Hydrant isn't covered by grass or your car!
