Riverina Police District is a diverse and vibrant Command, made up of a number of sectors which run from the Snowy Mountains of Tumut to the golden plains of Temora. It is a nursery for Australian sporting champions with strong AFL, rugby league and rugby union competitions and is the home for the National Art Glass Gallery, extensive gardens, Defence bases Australian Army Kapooka and Forest Hill

R.A.A.F, and Charles Sturt University. The city's shopping centre includes major chains stores through boutique shops and the wide variety and number of cultural and sporting clubs reflects the dept of our community. The Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre with capacities of 30,000 sheep and 4,000 cattle is one of the State's major centres. The Riverina Police District is broken down into 5 Clusters: Wagga Wagga the head station, Northern Cluster (Temora, Ariah Park and Ardlethan, Junee, Coolamon and Ganmain), Southern Cluster (Cootamundra and Gundagai), Southern Cluster (Tarcutta, Lockhart and The Rock) and our Snowy Valley Cluster (Tumut, Khancoban, Tumbarumba , Talbingo, Adelong and Batlow) comprising numerous Police Stations. Wagga Wagga is 518 km by rail from Sydney and 432 km from Melbourne on the main Southern Line. It is 185.6 m (608 ft) above sea level and situated on the Sturt Highway which joins the Hume Highway 48km to the east. It is the junction of the Sturt Highway and the Trunk road known as the "Olympic Way", which enables travellers by road to proceed to and from Sydney via Cootamundra, Cowra, Bathurst and The Blue Mountains area, instead of travelling via the Hume Highway.

A morning Tea, Presentation and station visit will be held at Wagga Police Station at 10am on the 3rd of September.

This invitation is open to Retired Police Staff from around Australia to come and join us.

On the 26th September 2026, the NSW Police Academy Goulburn with be having an Open Day from 10.00am-2.00pm.

You can expect to experience interactive displays from the various specialist units within the NSW Police Force, tour the Academy grounds, participate in interactive scenarios and speak with staff about joining the NSW Police Force if you are interested in becoming a police officer

Due to expected high numbers of attendees tickets are required.

A man has been charged after a business was allegedly deliberately set alight in Wagga Wagga early yesterday morning.

About 3.45am (Thursday 27 August 2026), emergency services were called to a business on Baylis Street, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended, alongside Fire and Rescue NSW crews who extinguished the blaze.

Nearby residents were evacuated; however, there were no reports of injuries.

The business was destroyed.

Police established a crime scene and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze commenced.

About 4:40pm yesterday, detectives arrested a 42-year-old man at Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with 'dishonestly for gain damage property by fire/explosive'.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 today (Friday 28 August 2026).

On the evening of 24 August 2026, police responded to reports of a suspected break and enter at a property on Hammond Avenue, East Wagga Wagga.

Police attended a short time later and located a man hiding beneath a deck on the property. The man was wearing dark clothing and gloves.

A search of the area revealed a hammer, a damaged lock, and a trailer door that had been forced open. During a subsequent search of the man, police located 0.66 grams of a white crystalline substance, believed to be methamphetamine.

The man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged. He will appear before the court at a later date.

Seven police officers are heading to the Riverina Police District.

5 probationary constables and 2 police officers who were part of the Professional Mobility Program, were allocated to the Riverina Police District, following today's attestation.

The graduation of a record-breaking 353 probationary constables marks the largest class to attest from the NSW Police Academy in 14 years.

The Professional Mobility Program incentivises experienced serving police officers from other jurisdictions to join the NSW Police Force while keeping their equivalent rank (up to Senior Constable level six).
