His Majesty The King, His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, Her Majesty Gyalyum Tsheyring Pem Wangchuck, and Members of the Royal Family offered prayers and one thousand butter lamps at the Grand Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong today for Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati of Thailand, who passed away on 11 June 2026.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, the Thai community in Bhutan, and officials from the Royal Thai Consulate Office.

Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha was the eldest daughter of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua of Thailand. She had been undergoing medical treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok since December 2022. A beloved Princess, she was widely admired and respected for her commitment to public service, having championed justice and the welfare of women and children, and served with distinction in the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

Bhutan and Thailand share a warm and longstanding friendship, and the Royal Family and people of Bhutan have conveyed their deepest condolences to His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn, the Royal Family, and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan have learnt with great sadness of the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati of Thailand.

Her Royal Highness devoted her life to the service of her country and people. Through her work in advancing justice, supporting the welfare of women and children and her distinguished service in the Royal Thai Armed Forces, she exemplified a deep sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. Her dedication to public service earned her widespread respect and admiration.

At this time of great sorrow, we extend our deepest condolences to His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn, the Royal Family of Thailand and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand. We join them in mourning the loss of a beloved Princess whose life was devoted to the service of her nation and the well-being of its people.

Our thoughts and prayers are especially with those who knew and loved Her Royal Highness most dearly and who now mourn her loss.

🚨 Body Recovered from Sunkosh River

A search and rescue team recovered the body of a 29-year-old man from the Sunkosh River today. He is suspected to have lost his life after his vehicle reportedly veered off the Tsirang–Wangdue highway and plunged nearly 100 metres into the river.

According to reports, he was travelling from Mendrelgang Gewog in Tsirang to Trongsa late at night. His family alerted the police after he failed to reach his destination. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed.

9 of 14 houses completely destroyed

Update: A fire broke out at approximately 3 am in Toktokgom Village under Bongo Gewog in Chukha. The likely cause of the fire is suspected to be electricity, pending official confirmation.
Of the 14 houses in the affected area, 9 have been completely destroyed, with significant loss of household belongings. No casualties have been reported so far.

Police and DeSuup personnel remain on the ground, actively managing the incident and taking measures to protect the remaining 5 houses and prevent further spread of the fire.

His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen and Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel and Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck graced the conclusion of the Thimphu Dzongkhag Moenlam Chenmo, and offered prayers.

The Moenlam Chenmo committee, representing the people of Bhutan, offered Ku Sung Thug Mendrel to Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen to commemorate Her Majesty’s 36th Birth Anniversary.

The weeklong annual Moenlam Chenmo, held for global peace, was presided over by His Holiness The Je Khenpo.
