Sometimes, the right support changes everything. 💜

When Maryam* and her family arrived in Canada after fleeing conflict in Somalia, finding safe and affordable housing was one of their biggest challenges.

Through Civida's community housing program, they found a stable home and the space to start building a new life.

When things got harder, Civida was there too. After Maryam's mother lost mobility, our Community Engagement team helped the family navigate a wheelchair ramp application.

"When I got the ramp, I felt relieved. This is when I realized things are starting to get better."

𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐚 provides affordable housing and rent support. If you want to apply for housing or rent assistance, you're in the right place at civida.ca.

𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is our registered charitable arm. They raise funds to support programs and people living in Civida communities. You can donate or take part in fundraising events at cividahousingfoundation.ca.

Reminder for Cat Owners 🐱

We’ve seen an increase in cat waste on Civida housing site and wanted to share a quick reminder about responsible cat ownership.

While cats are allowed outdoors in Edmonton, they should not become a nuisance to neighbours, hold a valid cat license, and are always safest at home.

Cat waste can pose health risks, especially for children and other residents, so it’s important to clean up promptly and help keep shared spaces safe.

If your cat spends time outdoors, please ensure they are supervised or in a secure space (like a leash or catio), and that they’re properly licensed and identifiable. Please note that bylaw violations may result in fines.

It’s about more than housing; it’s about helping people feel secure, supported, and at home, and that’s what this recognition represents.

Big news for affordable housing in Alberta.

Civida has been approved for more than $45 million through the Affordable Housing Partnership Program (AHPP), a joint initiative between the Governments of Alberta and Canada.

This investment will help create 340 new affordable homes for more than 1,000 Albertans, in partnership with Synergy Projects Ltd. and the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations.

Together, we’re helping ensure more people have a safe, stable place to call home.

This month, we're shining a light on a community program available to Civida tenants— Riverbend ROCKS 🌟

They offer free support for kids, youth, and families, including:
- After-school tutoring (English, Social, and Science)
- Friday night youth rec programs for ages 7–18
- Summer programs in July and August
- Intergenerational activities for parents and neighbours
- Youth rec programs at Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre
