We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our cherished friend and colleague, Ann E. Miller(December 21, 1942 – October 31, 2025).

Ann served as a valued Board Member of CAPS Atlantic, where she devoted herself wholeheartedly to strengthening our sommelier community in Halifax. As a certified sommelier herself (2011), she brought warm friendships and endless encouragement to the program and to its members. Her humour and infectious laugh brightened every class and monthly tasting she attended.

In her role overseeing memberships, Ann was not only an administrator but a builder of relationships always welcoming new members and championing the growth of our local chapters sommelier network.

We would like to send condolences to Art and the rest of her family and friends and raise a toast in her honour.

Thelema is one of South Africas premier wine estates, with an international track record going back to the mid 1990’s when the Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon was selected as the first South African wine to be included in Wine Spectators Top 100 wines of the year. In 1994 the Thelema Chardonnay was served at Nelson Mandelas presidential inauguration. Thelema is 100% family owned and managed, and all fruit come from our own vineyards ensuring the highest level of quality and consistency.

After establishing Thelema as an iconic Stellenbosch estate Gyles Webb set-out to develop a new, small scale, cool-climate wine brand. In 2002, after searching the Western Cape he found the perfect location in the Elgin Valley, and Sutherland Vineyards was born.

Join us at The Port where Vineyard director Thomas Webb will be guiding us through a variety of wines from both the Thelema and Sutherland vineyards while chatting vineyard.

CAPS Atlantic and Wine Visions is very excited to be hosting Victor Goichon from famed Bourgogne producer Bouchard Pére et Fils.

Bouchard Père et Fils is one of Bourgognes oldest wine-merchant houses. With over 320 acres of vineyards, it’s also one of the region’s most important vineyard owners.

Victor will be guiding us through an in-depth tasting of some of the magical products available to us here in Nova Scotia.

This will be a very intimate event, so seating is limited. Please RSVP to Brad George ([email protected]) to claim your seat before it’s too late.

The CAPS-Atlantic chapter is excited to announce that we have a brand new curriculum! Our certification courses are currently among the most comprehensive and up-to-date worldwide thanks to the hard work and dedication of our lead educators Alana Steele and Erin Hamson.

Our introductory course ‘Sensory Development & Wine Styles’ is set to start on Tuesday March 4th and run weekly until May 13th. In this module, students will develop their palate and the ability to discern quality and value. They will learn how to professionally evaluate wine, recognize faults, and finally, they will become familiar with strategies for food and wine pairings and proper service skills.

This course is the first module of the CAPS sommelier certification program but can be taken as a stand alone course for those who wish to simply gain more confidence with wine essentials.

Please visit our website for more information.
