Not Commission staff. Not Commissioners.

When a complaint goes to a Board of Inquiry, an independent adjudicator hears the case and determines whether discrimination occurred.

At the heart of this month of celebration is August 15, National Acadian Day, when Acadians have gathered to celebrate their identity and heritage since 1881.

Each year on August 1, we mark Emancipation Day, recognizing the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act coming into effect across the British Empire in 1834. While this historic milestone ended the legal enslavement of many people of African descent, it did not end the inequities that slavery created. Those legacies continue to shape lives and communities today.
