🚒 CAPTAIN: RYAN MORASCH 🚒

After 22 years of dedicated service with the High River Fire Department, Captain Ryan Morasch is beginning a new chapter in his fire service career after accepting a Firefighter position with the City of Airdrie Fire Department.

Throughout more than two decades of service, Captain Morasch has earned the respect of those around him through his professionalism, knowledge, experience, and commitment to the fire service.

Captain Morasch’s contributions extend far beyond the calls he has responded to. His leadership, mentorship, training, and dedication, have helped shape generations of High River firefighters and strengthened the level of service we provide to our community.

On behalf of the High River Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 5609, we sincerely thank Captain Morasch for his 22 years of service to the High River Fire Department and the community of High River.

While we are sorry to see a respected Captain, colleague, and friend leave our department, we are proud to see him continue his career and know that the Airdrie Fire Department is gaining an exceptional firefighter and leader.

Thank you for everything, Ryan. We wish you and your family nothing but success in this next chapter.

Thinking about riding an e-bike, e-scooter or another small vehicle in ?

Before you head out, make sure you know the rules. In Alberta, not all small vehicles are classified the same. The type of vehicle you have determines where you can ride and whether you need a driver's license, registration, insurance, or a helmet to operate.

Some vehicles, such as electric scooters, are not permitted on public roads, sidewalks or pathways and may only be operated on private property. The Traffic Bylaw also outlines local rules for certain vehicle types such as powered bicycles. The bylaw states that powered bicycles/e-bikes may only be operated on roadways and are not permitted on sidewalks or the Happy Trails pathway system.

Before you ride, take a few minutes to learn the rules that apply to your vehicle. It can help keep everyone safe.

UPDATE: The scene has now been cleared, and all roads have been reopened. Regular traffic can now resume.

Please be advised that Highway 23 is currently closed at 152 Street E due to a collision. Please avoid the area if possible.

Attention Recreational River Users
The Highwood River has naturally changed course in some areas around town. Sections of previously active channels may now be dry, while new channels may contain unfamiliar conditions and hazards such as large trees, debris, and other obstructions present both above and below the water surface.

With the recent rains, there is more debris in areas that may have been clear previously. Please use caution if you choose to venture into the river. Wear life jackets, never go alone & avoid alcohol while in and around the river.
