🏍️ Nearly Double the Speed Limit

Enforcement Officers recently conducted a traffic stop involving a motorcycle travelling 158 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on 112 Street W northbound near Granary Road, just before the speed limit transitions to 60 km/h. Travelling at nearly double the posted speed limit, the rider's speed significantly reduced the time available to react to changing road, traffic, and weather conditions.

While many motorcyclists are taking advantage of the remaining riding season, safety must remain a priority. Excessive speed increases the risk of serious collisions and can have life-altering consequences.

Speed limits are in place to protect all road users. Slow down, ride responsibly, and arrive safely.

Eyes on the road. Not on your phone.
Officers on Highway 2 near 306 Avenue East observed a driver with both hands on a cell phone while the passenger reached across to steer the vehicle. The driver was looking down at their phone while traveling through a high-collision area.
The driver was issued a $390 distracted driving ticket. The fine is only part of the cost, as insurance impacts can be significantly higher.
Driving is not a shared responsibility between the driver and the passenger. If you're behind the wheel, your full attention belongs on the road. Put the phone away, stay focused, and help keep Alberta's highways safe.
