Township Humanities brings university scholarship into our rural public libraries through accessible, professor-led lectures and discussions. Each session is offered by a different humanities or social sciences professor and centered around a short text, which attendees can pick up at the library beforehand. Come to one session or several - explore new ideas and texts in community. Help define what humanities scholarship in 2026 is for!

It's coming - September! Our calendar is full of opportunities to try new things or start new routines. Sign yourself and a friend up for our Digital Skills workshop, and learn how to more confidently navigate your own device. Come out to the Friends of the Library Culture Days event on September 19th to explore and celebrate Douro-Dummer Hunting Camp Culture! There's also a new show in the art gallery beginning September 3rd, AND we're launching a brand new program called Township Humanities, which aims to bring university scholarship into the rural public library through accessible, professor led lectures and discussions. Plus our regular programs, with a few new twists. Whew! So come on out to the library - we can't do all of this alone :)

New art show alert! "Gesture" is an exhibition of drawings, weavings, embroideries, and more by local artist Maggie Pearson. Come out to the show opening on Thursday, September 3rd or, check out the art any time during library open hours until October 31st. Are you a local artist wishing to show your work? Fill out the artist application on the library website!

For anybody who has ever had questions or frustrations while using their laptop, phone or tablet: we are running another three-part Digital Skills Workshop here at the library with Peterborough Native Learning Program this September. These supportive workshops are designed to move at the learner's pace and cover topics like: accessing device settings, accessing email, recognizing scams, and protecting yourself while using the internet. Tuesdays, Sept 1, 8, 15 from 1:30-3:30PM. Please call or email the library to register.

Here is our program calendar for next month, August 2026. Our Summer Reading Club members have collectively read almost 70 books, and we are still going strong! There is still time to join and come to the pizza party on August 26th. Beat the summer heat - drop into the air conditioned library or meet under our shady maple tree for all kinds of cool programming. Book Club, Scrabble Squad, Storytime, Family Yoga, and more - all at DDPL this August!

How lucky are we to have this outdoor library program space? Thank you to all the families who came out to Stay, Play & Picnic Outdoor Storytime today! We will be running Storytime outdoors (weather permitting) on six Friday mornings this summer. Come join us for stories, movement, songs, and games!

Family Yoga is back this summer at DDPL. This is such a fun way to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space at the library with your little one! Join Kim from Tree Song Yoga and Wellness under the shade of our maple tree on select Saturdays this summer from 10:30-11:15AM. Bring yoga mats or blankets and water. Ages 4-10 with caregivers. See you there!

The summer reading challenge isn't just for kids - join Douro's newest book club! We'll be meeting Tuesday evenings, once per month in July, August, and September. Our first book is Orbital by Samantha Harvey. Come for coffee, conversation, and the company of fellow readers. Call or drop-in to the library to get your copy of the book today! Ages 18 and up.

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, July 11th, Mike and Nancy Towns are giving a special presentation on historic Douro's "Rural Life and Small Town Commerce". Come to the library and step back in time - take in the stories, photographs, and oral histories of 19th and 20th century Douro. 10:30AM-Noon.
